ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with more than $1,000 taken from an office safe at the Dollar General Store in the 2500 block of Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans Police say.

Daniel R. Holt, 33, of St. Albans was charged with grand larceny.

About 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, the staff at the Dollar General Store said they saw a man who had gotten into the office safe. He was taking money from a bank bag stored in the safe.

The man told employees he was “playing a joke,” asked them not to call police and left the store. Employees took the money from the man’s hands before he left the business.

Officers watched surveillance video, and Holt was arrested later Tuesday evening at his home in St. Albans.
