High Speed Police Chase Ends in Crash and Arrest

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man is now behind bars -- accused of leading police on a high-speed car chase while under the influence.

Ravenswood Police tell WSAZ.com, Friday night into Saturday morning they tried to pull over James Andrew McCune for driving over the posted 40 miles-per-hour speed limit.

McCune allegedly sped away before turning south on WV-2 towards Millwood at more than 80 miles-per-hour.

According to the criminal complaint, police lost sight of the vehicle, but soon saw McCune’s wrecked white 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. Police say McCune lost control of his car and crashed into a ditch.

McCune admitted that he had just left a bar and was smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol.

McCune is charged with felony fleeing from law enforcement in a vehicle while under the influence. He was taken to the South Central Regional Jail. Police say more charges are expected.

The criminal complaint states Mccune was not seriously injured in the crash.
