MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing a juvenile Sunday during an altercation in Mason County.
A news release from the Mason County Sheriff's Department says Zachary Gillis was arrested Monday for attempted murder and malicious wounding.
The release says deputies were dispatched to Huntington Road in Gallipolis Ferry because a man had a knife and was bleeding from the wrist and had a cut above his eye.
Friends of the victim say it began when Gillis showed up at their house with a group of people. After the fight broke out, he allegedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing the teenage victim.
"It just happened so quickly. One second there was just a group of guys screaming on my front porch and then, bam it just happened," said Breezy McCoy. "And we were like, 'Oh my gosh, we have to stop this' and just tried to break it up."
Friends of the victim say he was stabbed at least seven times.
"I realized that he was bleeding really badly," McCoy said. "I was just like, oh God this is not going to be good."
The victim was wrapped in a blanket and taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital by a woman at the scene.
According to the release, three men were injured in the same incident, including the juvenile.
Gillis is being held in Western Regional Jail; his bond was set at $150,000.
