MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Residents are being warned about a scam where they're asked to purchase a card in exchange for possible prize money, the Mason County Sheriff's Department says.

Deputies say a supposed organization called Advanced America has been calling residents. They're advised to purchase a green dot car or possibly another type of credit card.

Once money is put onto the card, the person is asked to call Advanced America back and report their card number.

They're told if they follow instructions, Betty White will show up at their home -- along with law enforcement officers - to deliver prize money.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked to call the Federal Trade Commission at 202-326-2222 or their local 911 center.
