Mold and Sewage Problems Plague Apartment in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Mold, sewage and ceiling leaks have been plaguing Deana Hudnall at her apartment for a year and a half. Now, with problems building up, she's also facing eviction from Sable Point Apartments.

"The sewer water came out over the bathtubs, in the hallways, the carpets," Hudnall said. "I was promised new carpet August of 2012. [...] We noticed that the hallway was wet, and so we opened it up. There was raw feces, toilet paper, tampons, cigarette butts, who knows what else."

Hudnall said she has placed multiple work orders and spoken to maintenance workers about fixing the problems, especially the mold.

"The windows are always moldy and they call that condensation," Hudnall said. "He gave me a bottle of bleachy spray to spray on it. I told him I've done that, it comes back."

She noted that her teenage sons can no longer sleep in their bedroom because of the mold on the windows, and that the heating and cooling doesn't work on that side of the apartment, making prime conditions for growing mold.

"I had to go to the hospital because a valve in my heart wasn't working right," Hudnall said. "Neither was my kidneys. And they said that mold could be a cause of that."

Now, Hudnall says the complex has told her she is being evicted at the end of October.

"I have three kids and it's a lose-lose situation. And I can stay here and we can be sick all the time, or we can leave and not have anywhere to go," Hudnall said.

WSAZ.com asked Sable Point Apartments about this situation and was told the complex does not want to comment.
