PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - The director of a veterans museum in Parkersburg is protesting the outcome of a court case in which a Wood County man was sentenced to probation for stealing from the museum.

Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley director Gary Farris placed a sign outside the museum Friday. It mockingly invited the public to steal from the museum without the threat of jail time.

Robert Lawrence Burdette, 61, of Belleville pleaded guilty earlier this month to petit larceny for stealing a bayonet, cap and patch from the museum on Jan. 4.

Wood County Prosecutor Jason Wharton says the items were returned.

Farris says he's not pleased with the outcome of the case.
