New Sheriff to Take Over Kanawha County; Prosecutor Re-Elected

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two races in Kanawha County were already decided before voters even went to the polls.
Metro 911 Director and former Chief Deputy Johnny Rutherford ran unopposed for Sheriff.
He is the brother of current Sheriff Mike Rutherford. The current sheriff could not run again because of term limits.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Mark Plants will keep his spot. Plants also ran unopposed during Tuesday’s election. This will be Plants second term in office.
During his first term, Plants prosecuted several high-profile cases, including the murder trial involving the 2003 sniper-style shootings in Kanawha County.
