UPDATE 8/7/12 @ 9:40 p.m.
NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A new police chief has been named in the city of Nitro.
Mayor Dave Casebolt confirmed Tuesday night the hiring of interim chief Brian Oxley. He took over the department after former Chief Jack Jordan was fired.
Oxley has been with the Nitro Police Department since 1998.
Chief Jack Jordan, 54, tells WSAZ.com he was terminated from his post Monday morning.
Chief Jordan says Mayor Dave Casebolt called him to his office and presented him with a letter. Jordan says he wasn't given a reason for his immediate termination.
Casebolt took over as the city's mayor on July 1.
Jordan has served for more than thirty years on the Nitro Police Department. He served as chief since December 2000.
Mayor Casebolt tells WSAZ.com this was an administrative decision. Casebolt wanted to think Jordan for his longtime service to the city.
Mayor Casebolt says he will interview candidates for the position and he hopes to make a decision in the next two to three weeks.
The mayor has appointed Captain Brian Oxley to serve as acting chief.
