Arrest Made in Attempted Murder Case in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An arrest has been made in an attempted murder case in Boone County.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office says Dale Edward Lowther Jr., 33, of Van, has been charged with attempted murder.

Deputies say about 9:30 Thursday night in the Williams Mountain area, Lowther Jr. Shot Gary Hubbard multiple times in the back.

They say Hubbard was driving along County Road 5 when he was shot.

According to a press release, Lowther Jr. fired 10 rounds.

It was originally reported to deputies that Lowther Jr. was hit by a vehicle multiple times, but they say those reports are untrue.

According to a press release, "Deputies believe the false report was either an attempt to justify the shooting or to evade capture by law enforcement."

Lowther Jr. was arraigned Friday morning. His bail was set at $200,000 property only.

Hubbard is currently in critical condition in the hospital, with life threatening injuries.

If convicted, Lowther Jr. could spend 3-15 years in prison.

WILLIAMS MOUNTAIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One person has been shot and another run over in Boone County.

This happened on Prenter Road in the Williams Mountain area around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to 911 dispatchers, one person was shot two times in the back and once in the arm.

During the commotion one person was hit by a vehicle, according to investigators.

Both patients were taken to a hospital in Charleston.

The Boone Sheriff's Department and West Virginia State Police responded to the scene.

No names are being released at this time.

Dispatchers say it appears the incident was isolated to the two people taken to the hospital. They say there doesn't appear to be any danger to the public as a result of the situation.
