CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A park in the heart of downtown Charleston could soon be a hot spot.
Phase one of renovations are completed at Davis Park. A large hedge was removed and new tables and benches were added.
More trees will be cut down to make the park more open. Additional seating also will be added as part of phase two, at a price of $22,000.
The Municipal Beautification Commission hopes more people get out and enjoy the park.
"Davis Park to me is the most beautiful and largest green space we have in Charleston," beautification commission member Barbara McCabe said. "It's for several years been overlooked. We have noticed in the past year since our upgrades have begun the park is being used much more than it ever has been."
If you want to see the overall plans for the park, next week there's a party in the park planned. It will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. Food and drinks will be part of the fun, along with maps and information about the makeover.
