MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Mason County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone scheme regarding power bills.
The Sheriff's Office says they have received several reports over the past week from residents who have received calls from a company claiming that they will turn off the resident's power if they don't pay a certain amount of money.
The Sheriff's Office tells WSAZ.com the caller claims they work with Mountain Power Electric Company and says they are a disconnect service.
They ask residents for debit or credit card information over the phone, and in some cases have asked for as much as $1000.
The Sheriff's Office says this is a scheme and they are working to try to track down where it's originating from.
