LEON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A registered sex offender is back behind bars.
Mason County Sheriff's deputies tell WSAZ.com they got a tip that Russell L. Clinton, 42, of St. Albans, was staying at a home in Leon in Mason County.
West Virginia State Police say that Clinton is a sex offender and was wanted for failing to update information.
Troopers say he was supposed to be living in St. Albans, but when they went to check on him, found out he had been staying in Buffalo, in Putnam County. They also say he failed to notify them that he got a new vehicle and a new job.
Mason County deputies say on Tuesday, they went to the home in the 900-block of Connell Lane in Leon, where Clinton was reportedly staying.
According to the criminal complaint, when they pulled up the driveway, Clinton ran into the woods behind the residence.
Deputies canvassed the woods, spotted Clinton, and chased after him for a short time. They say Clinton ignored their commands, and they lost sight of him, so they backed out of the woods for their safety.
They returned to the home Wednesday evening and found Clinton on the back porch, where he once again refused commands from deputies.
According to the criminal complaint, after a struggle, they were able to get Clinton on the ground, he rolled over and kicked a deputy.
After more struggling, they were able to cuff Clinton and take him into custody.
He is charged with obstructing and officer and battery on an officer in Mason County.
He is also facing charges out of Putnam County.
