UPDATE 2/7/13 @ 6:30 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An entire coaching staff will not be by their team, calling the shots, at Thursday night’s game.

This comes after an investigation into the boys' basketball coaching staff at Riverside High School.

Instead the girls' basketball head coach, Scott Garretson, will be on the sidelines.

“I haven't even had a practice with them. The bad thing is we do play tonight, and I’ve not practiced with them yet,” Garretson said.

He got word late Wednesday night that the boys' basketball coaching staff had been suspended.
The coaches asked him to take over.

“Hopefully things will be smooth, and this transition will just be a short-lived thing and they'll be back to normal. But I’ll be here for them as long as I need to be,” Garretson said.

Coaches for the boys’ team have been suspended for two games each.

Because it's a personnel matter, school officials aren't allowed to comment on a reason for the suspension.

However, several sources tell WSAZ.com it's because they played an ineligible player.

“I hope we move through it, we know we've done a thorough job and continue on,” Riverside High Principal Valery Harper said.

Moving on is one thing all sides can agree on; especially the players.

“They're just ready to play basketball. They love the game. They're bothered by the situation, but they're ready to move forward,” Garretson said.

WSAZ.com did reach out to the coaches involved to get their side of the story, but they're not allowed to comment at this time.

Riverside is set to take on Woodrow Wilson High Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
