FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Six people were taken to the hospital after a head-on crash in Fayette County, Friday.

Two of the victims remain in critical condition, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened about 4:00 p.m. On U.S. Route 60 in Hico.

Three people had to be extricated from one of the vehicles. Two of them were flown to CAMC in Charleston and are in critical condition. The other was taken to Plateau Medical Center for treatment, and has been released.

Three people in the other vehicle were taken to PMC. The driver was transferred to CAMC for additional treatment. The other two have been released.

Sheriff Steve Kessler says icy, snow covered roads contributed to the crash.

Route 60 was closed for about two hours following the crash. It remains under investigation.
