UPDATE 10/9/13 @ 11:10 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The West Virginia State Board of Education is asking Fayette County Schools to not consolidate Meadow Bridge High School for another year.

During a meeting Wednesday night, the board asked the school system to amend its Comprehensive Education Facilities Plan to remove the high school from the consolidation plans for one year.

By a state board request, the Fayette County superintendent is studying the feasibility of high school age students in the Meadow Bridge area attending schools in Greenbrier or Summers counties, something parents say is not fair to the students.

Another vote is scheduled for May 2014 for a bond that included new construction and renovations to existing school facilities.

Fayette County schools has been under state control since 2010.

The consolidation is part of the county's comprehensive education facilities. Meadow Bridge would be merged with Fayetteville and Midland Trail high schools.

On Wednesday, the state board asked the county to amend the plan and remove Meadow Bridge from the consolidation for a year.

Board members also asked Fayette County Schools Superintendent Keith Butcher to conduct a study on how to best serve the education needs of Meadow Bridge students.

The study will include the feasibility of students crossing county lines to attend schools in Greenbrier and Summers counties.

The state took over the school system in 2010.
