CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A local boy who loved football and his community was buried Thursday after losing his battle with cancer.

6-year-old Tracy Dale Evans died on Saturday after a two-year battle with brain cancer.

Earlier this year, the little boy was named an honorary member of Huntington High's football team. Thursday, his favorite team served as pallbearers at his funeral.

Evans step-father says he wants his step-son to be remembered as a fighter. "I want them to remember Tracy Dale as a fighter. He fought long. He fought hard. He beat cancer. He beat it. He doesn't have it now does he? He doesn't have it now. I know that he saw Jesus' face before he took his last breath and I know where he is and I know he's happy," Randy Thomas said.

Donations to cover the boy's medical expenses are being accepted at First Sentry Bank.

WSAZ covered a special birthday party for Tracy last November. Click the link to read more about that special day.
