CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Lydia Gibson of Ripley, W.Va., is thankful for patience this holiday season.
"Let's just say it's been a long morning," Gibson said. "Twelve hundred dollars on airline tickets to see my son, and we're still here grounded.
Gibson arrived at the airport for a 6 a.m. flight with her daughter and two grandchildren. Her flight was canceled because of fog in Chicago.
Her airline transferred her to another flight on a competing airline and checked her luggage. But the paperwork didn't transfer in time to board the plane, so it left without her.
Six and a half hours later, Gibson was still at the airport working the phone.
"We're just trying to get to Little Rock, Arkansas," she said with a smile. "Who knows, if I can't get out soon; well just hop in the car and drive."
