KANAWHA COUNTY, W. Va. (WSAZ) – Two people are facing charges, after West Virginia State Police found a meth lab inside a vacant apartment in Rand, West Virginia.

It happened Friday, after troopers received a complaint of a meth lab in an apartment where no one was supposed to be living.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they noticed a strong chemical odor and found James A.Triplett, 26, and Mary E. Bowen, 25, inside.

Troopers also found packets of decongestion medicine and coffee filters, which are commonly used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. A white powdery substance which is believed to be meth was also found, along with scales and several small empty baggies.

Triplett and Bowen were arrested and charged with attempting to operate a clandestine lab, conspiracy to commit a felony and alteration of pseudoephedrine. Triplett faces additional charges of purchase of pseudoephedrine for meth and possession with intent.

The apartment the two were found in is owned by Triplett’s mother. She signed a consent for to allow police to search the residence. She says she was unaware anyone was inside, as the apartments were up for sale or rent.
