RICHWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The city of Richwood, West Virginia is down two police officers, after allegations of abuse --and there are only three other officers in the department.
Two officers were suspended back in July, with pay.
The mayor says he has turned the issue over to the Department of Public Safety, and is keeping them on the payroll until the investigation is complete.
This leaves only three officers on the force, but the mayor says there's always a law enforcement presence.
"Well frankly there is no concern,” Mayor Bob Johnson said. “With instant communications, we can always get a backup officer. And we are well tended by the Nicholas County Sheriff's Department, and the Department of Public Safety."
In fact, the State Police Barracks in Richwood are just a few hundred yards from the police station. The mayor says with those state troopers, Nicholas County Sheriff's Deputies and some extra work from the remaining Richwood officers, they have things covered.
