BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A young woman has admitted to killing an elderly man, and investigators say it was fueled by her drug habit.

Maura Perry, 22, of Boone County, pleaded guilty Thursday to first degree murder in the shooting death of Jimmie Cooper, 71, of Peytona.

The crime happened in September 2012.

Cooper's body was first discovered when co-workers were concerned because they had not seen him for several days and he failed to report to his job.

When checking on Cooper, they found the door to his residence partially open and notified the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say they found Cooper dead in his bed. They say he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say Perry stole items from Cooper, and pawned them for drug money.

She faces 15 years to life in prison when she is sentenced next month.
