The US 23 near Louisa in Lawrence County, KY has reopened following a wreck between a tanker truck and another vehicle.

The crash was at the intersection of US 23 and Route 32.

Sheriff Deputies tell us that a pickup pulled out in front of the tanker which was traveling south on US 23. The tanker ended up on its side, as the driver tried to avoid hitting the pickup.

The tanker was loaded with diesel fuel. Some of that fuel leaked out. That cleanup is now complete.

We’re told driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital. No word on her condition.

Very scary looking accident. BTDT. Stuff happens all the time. People just need to be more aware of what they and others around them are doing. Glad both are ok and hope both will be home for the holidays. Oh yea, quit all the bickering. That don't get you anywhere.

thank the lord they are both alive !

Hey Penny it is clear you were the one who started and continued the "childish" comments here with your Wal-mart statement. The first person to pass judgement was you. You passed judgement on this accident victim and posted here on this forum. Nobody buys that were speaking in general terms. Hey It Doesn't Matter the Wal Mart comment was very offensive, especially since I work there. You should have kept you insenstive comments to yourself. I agree with Tom and others judgmental people like yourself should not teach children, hold office, or even procreate. Imagine a doctor saying well this person must have got her drivers training at Wal-mart and deserves what she had coming to her so we'll not make much effort to help her.

People really need to get a life. As some one else said "if you can't say something nice don't say anything. Well shut up!!!!!!!!!!! The driver of the pick up is a friend of mine, my husband and my father drove and drive 18 wheelers. It happened people and at this point it makes no difference whos fault it was. Right now the only thing that matters is that she gets better and home to her children and family and friends that love and care about her. Thank goodness there were no deaths in this accident. Again it happened. Thank God that everyone can be with families and loved ones especially at this time of year so please people I really don't think that wsaz intends this to be a bashing site.

Hey Gary before you comment on where people get thier licenses from, you need to remember where you went to school to get yours..$5k and a couple of weeks and your a truck driver...Talk about buying your licence...FYI(That stands for For Your Information) i had mine long before CDL's came about and i put up with alot of stupidty from other truck drivers as well...I guess you dont speed, run to fast for conditions or lie on your logs huh.Look in the mirror and think back on how many times you have made a mistake before you bash to much...If you have been behind the wheel any at all you have made many.

Penny can i interest you in a 5 gallon bucket of polish to shine up your halo for the next story you feel you need to comment on. I'm with Tom, your crawldadding there a little.Who cares who is at fault, lets worry about this lady getting better and the driver being able to drive again due to the stress of having a near fatal accident.Who is to say how much experiance this truck driver had?Who knows if he had on his lights if there was foggy conditions? Who knows if she had somekind of trouble with her truck?Ever had a break down Penny? We dont know, but what we do know is that Lisa needs our thoughts and prayers.

Posted by: it matters to me on Dec 13, 2007 at 06:40 AM
penny posted her message attached to a very specific incident. If she wasn't referring to this story, then she should would have posted it somewhere else. I'm glad people are standing up to her!

Posted by: It Doesn't Matter on Dec 12, 2007 at 11:45 PM
What is up with you people? I can't believe how destructive that some of you are being. Only the investigators will know who was at fault. All that matters is that everyone survived. I have read what Penny wrote and was not offended at all. She didn't name any names at all and obviously she knows what it is like to loose someone in a tragic accident. If it were you wouldn't you feel hard about the way people drive now days? All I have to say is look at it from both sides before you make rude remarks about someone or their opinions.

Posted by: friend on Dec 12, 2007 at 10:10 PM
to Melissa. please don't post individuals first and last names. There is a perfectly logical reason why the name of the driver was not printed or announced.

Posted by: tom on Dec 12, 2007 at 07:30 PM
All this (bickering) could have been avoided had Gary and the infamous Penny just kept their insensitive remarks to themselves. Penny, I dont need to know you to realize that I don't like you or your opinions. I stand by my remark that judgemental people such as yourself should think twice before procreating. It is obvious to everyone reading these messages that you are now trying to "flip-flop" on your previous statements. You originally passed judgement on a mother of two, lying in the hospital in critical condition. Now you are being called out on those statements and it kinda hurts doesn't it? Why don't you just apologize and, in the future, keep these types of comments to yourself?

Posted by: Paul on Dec 12, 2007 at 07:19 PM
I just wonder why WSAZ would not print my other letter when there was not one neg. thing in it about anyone and was hopeing both involved the best but they can print some of this other nonsense???????

Posted by: ASHLEY on Dec 12, 2007 at 10:49 AM
OK,First things first, Glory be to God that both individuals are alive. 2nd, I can't believe that Grown-ups are on here arguing about who's to blame, who cares? There isn't 1 person out there who hasn't made a mistake driving at one time or another. It totally makes me sick that people are posting about how careless a driver Lisa was, let me just say to those people SHUT-UP, you have no idea what happened that morning, you have no idea what the conditions were leading up to the accident and you have no right to point fingers. You don't know her, she's an excellent driver and she understands the life of a truck driver, heck half of her family drives trucks so don't go there! And this is to Penny: Get off your mighty high horse there sister and come back to reality, no-one is that perfect and everyone makes mistakes. Infact, we all place our own lives on the line everytime we get behind our steering wheel each morning. May God bless all families involved.

Posted by: Penny on Dec 12, 2007 at 10:48 AM
I do not claim to be a perfect person. Nobody is perfect. I was not pointing fingers at any one person. I was stating my opinions and if that stepped on anyones toes then step back and look at yourself. If you misunderstood what I wrote then go back and read it again. I am glad Tom thinks he is GOD to pass judgement on me. How can you say that is sickens you that I have children??? You don't know me. Tom I do not know you and I will not assume that I do, but you need to grow up. We all have faults so don't go pointing fingers because you don't like their opinions. I think that all of these childish comments need to stop and yes everyone does need to remember the people involved in the accident and their families.

Posted by: anonymous on Dec 12, 2007 at 08:42 AM
Thank God both drivers are alive! When I tried to find out about the accident I logged on to WSAZ, thinking I could find out the facts of the accident. I was so sad and furious to find such rude comments about the accident when someone's life was at stake. I know that these comments can be evaluated by WSAZ before showing them. Please WSAZ, think about the families and friends of the people involved!!!!

Posted by: tom on Dec 11, 2007 at 07:06 PM
To Gary and Penny: If only the world was made up of people lke the two of you who, apparently, have never made a single mistake while driving. Grammar, on the other hand, is another issue.

Posted by: tom on Dec 11, 2007 at 06:57 PM
Im glad penny is a perfect human being and has never made a mistake in her life. It sickens me that people like her have children.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 11, 2007 at 06:46 PM
First off everyone should be happy noone was killed. However if the lady had been sitting at a stand still and the tanker dropped off the road how come the road signs were still standing at the jct.??? I would think the pickup would have taken those out on its way to the graudrail. Be thankful he swerved tring to avoid the collision if not it would have hit alot closer to the door. Why is it in the slow lane? Who knows but I sure if you would have seen the steer tires how they were knocked back you would relize the tanker had no control over it after the impact. Anyway's alot of these comments are way out of line and alot of people are forgetting the most important thing, that noone was killed.

It sickens me that people would say such horrible stuff about a woman who was in a nearly fatal accident...especially when you dont even know her or the family!!! Who are you to say anything about this lady. Have you never been in an accident before? Maybe she was in hurry or maybe the roads were slick and after she pulled out something went wrong with her truck. You don't know. Tankers and larger trucks fly down that hill everyday. Who's to say he wasnt going way over the limit you dont know and neither do I. Needless to say if you had a good mother or father growing up they'd have told you if you didnt have anything nice to say dont say anything at all. Everyone needs to quit blaming one another and pray for the people involved and their families.

Posted by: Penny on Dec 11, 2007 at 08:20 AM
It sickens me to no end because people are in to big of a hurry anymore to consider that they may be putting someones life in danger. Due to people neglecting to read road signs and knowing the rules of the road those are the people that cause accidents and deaths. I value my life and the life of my children and others. That is what drives me to be the best driver that I can be. I myself have lost someone in an accident due to the neglect of the other driver. Not only did she take my fathers life but almost took my brothers life as well. I agree with Gary do people get their license at Wal-Mart. Someone needs to keep these people off the roads.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 11, 2007 at 07:29 AM
I think it is very terrible how everyone just jumped to the conclusion that it was her fault & that she got her drivers lic. at Wal Mart. The way it is starting to look is that the tank driver cllipped the front end of her truck while she was sitting still. That means he dropped off the edge of the road. She has more than a few truck drivers in her family including her own father, she knows how they work, & that they can't just stop on a dime. If he was swerving to miss her why is his truck still so far over in the slow lane? Not all truck drivers are perfect either, anyone can go take a 14 day class and get a CDL and call themselves a truck driver. Talk about getting a drivers lic. at Wal Mart.

Posted by: WIFE OF A TRUCK DRIVER on Dec 11, 2007 at 06:41 AM
I HEAR ALL THE TIME ABOUT HOW IT IS THE TRUCK DRIVERS FAULT, I DON'T SEE HOW U CAN BLAME THEM ALL THE TIME...PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THATS TRUCKS CAN'T STOP ON A DIME...TAKES A WHILE TO GET THEM UNDER CONTROL, AND WHEN U PULL OUT IN FRONT OF THEM U ARE TAKING YOUR LIFE AND THERES BOTH IN YOUR HANDS.

This is to Laura Lisa Nelson is the young woman that was in the wreck

Posted by: Melissa on Dec 10, 2007 at 11:28 PM
She will not be having surgery until probably Wednesday due to the severe swelling. They have her in ICU and want to monitor her kidney. Please keep her and Everyone that was Involed in this wreck in your prayers Thanks

Posted by: Melissa on Dec 10, 2007 at 11:26 PM
Lisa ( driver of pick up truck) is in ICU at St. Marys. She has displaced bone in her arm, left shoulder bone is broke, lacerated kidney, 5 broke ribs, broke toe, puncture in left leg, on top of road rash from head to toe.She was thrown out the driver side window even though she DID have her seat belt on. The seatbelt bracket broke due to the force of the collision. She was found partially under the guardrail and the truck, with the radiatoron top of her.

Posted by: ruby on Dec 10, 2007 at 11:15 PM
why argue about what truckers and drivers do we are all gulty at some point but instead of all that how about we take time and pray that God will keep this young lady and this man safe and watch over them and their families and make both of them better.

Posted by: Retired Trooper on Dec 10, 2007 at 08:42 PM
Yes, everyone should be thankfull this was not a fatal crash, but the very definition of an accident is an unexpected event. When because of neglience i.e. failing to yield the right of way to the truck (pulling out in front) or just plain not paying attention, the cause of this wreck. Most police agencies do not call wrecks/collisions, accidents anymore for this very reason. The main cause of most traffic collisions is "Driver Inattention" and/or "Failure-To-Yield. We all just need to be more attentive when driving and I do include myself when I say this. Again just be thankful no one was injured more than they were.

This is to Karla the truck driver also has small kids you have to think God no one was killed

Posted by: sandy on Dec 10, 2007 at 06:53 PM
yes they might do but you all drive way to fast just as well as every one else does and you all are the blame also not all the time but you drive entirly to fast on these roads we do have a speed limit you know

Posted by: laura on Dec 10, 2007 at 06:16 PM
Who was the young woman that was in the wreck?

Posted by: Karla on Dec 10, 2007 at 05:41 PM
I think everyone should be thinking of the drivers of BOTH vehicles! They are BOTH lucky to have survived this horrible accident. My thoughts and prayers are with both drivers and especially to driver of the pick up truck who has 2 small children who need their mother to come home to them. We all need to be thankful for everyday that we have and do not need to try and place blame on anyone. May God less us ALL!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 10, 2007 at 05:07 PM
i have to say that works both ways gary many times the truck driver is in a hurry. they have to get there load to wherever it is expected to and i don't think there is to much concern for other vehicles.

Posted by: dee on Dec 10, 2007 at 04:14 PM
Accidents happen many times without cause or reason. Sometimes rainy conditions limit visibility, and oncoming traffic is difficult to see. May God bless this young woman to be healed, and comfort her family.

Posted by: Marie on Dec 10, 2007 at 03:20 PM
I said a prayer too. People need to stop being in such a hurry, especially on wet roads, and be courtesy to the truck drivers. Remember, they can't turn or stop quickly like a pickup or car.

Posted by: gary on Dec 10, 2007 at 03:05 PM
I am a tanker driver this is what happens when people pull these stupid tricks on these 18 wheelers,,the car drivers think they always have to be in front of a truck no matter what it takes to do it. I see deal with that crap every day,,,that driver lucky he lived. where does people get there drivers licenses now days at wal-mart.
