UPDATE:
A man was fatally shot outside a fireworks stand in Eastern Kentucky on Monday. The victim, Philip Hickman, was shot on US 119 in Pike County.
Now a murder investigation is underway and although police are questioning someone, they're still not ready to say who pulled the trigger.
“It sounded like a snap pop going off or something. They thought somebody shot a little snap pop you know, and it was, i guess, a gunshot,” Charles Myers said.
Myers says someone went outside to see what was going on and found Hickman shot, laying on the ground by his car. He died at the scene.
“it's a scary thing,” Myers said.
Other witnesses told police they saw a green pick up truck with tinted windows drive away. Police say the driver turned himself in hours later.
Hickman's friends at the flea market say he frequently stopped by to say hello and they believe that's what he was doing this time. They say he never caused any trouble and they don't know why anyone would want to hurt him.
”The fellow there is a good fellow, a fine fellow, you know what I mean. I don't see why anybody would want to shoot him,” Myers said.
Police are looking for answers.
Family and friends are mourning Hickman’s sudden death and say the community lost a good person. His friends hope to find out why this happened and they say they want see whoever shot him behind bars.
Hickman leaves behind a wife and children.
Police have questioned the man who witnesses say drove away from the scene immediately after the shooting. So far no arrests have been made.
