ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ)—Kentucky State Police say a Carter County woman is under arrest after attacking a trooper.

42-year old Tena Pennington was arrested at her home in Hitchins on Tuesday.

Troopers say they went to Pennington’s home to serve a warrant. When they entered the house and located Pennington in a bedroom they say she struck one of the troopers with a broom handle.

The trooper received a minor injury.

Pennington is currently in Carter County Detention Center.

I live in Carter County KY and love it. I have lived in many other states ( and even other countries) I have never had any problems at all with law enforcement here in CC 'creeping' into my home. I am sure that that is more to this story than has been written here. Please people, quit making insulting remarks about my county. There are many good people here.

DID SHE HAVE MR CLEAN IN THE HOUSE?

Although a Johnson countian, I see home hasn't changed much. I'm actually glad since regardless of where you are in this world, you'll find people who just don't understand what responsibility means and who should take it.

First of all it seems that you have been on the wrong side of the law quite a few times. It also seems that you haven't been taught proper grammer or spelling. But as I try and decipher what you have written it seems that you are saying that the "cops" are getting a taste of their own medicine. Since when did they start carrying broomsitcks to criminal complaints, or on a certified warrant arrest. Upon further reading, I can understand more of your complaint. More than likely, a police agency was called to your home on something like a domestic complaint or such, then you got mouthy, and also became arrested. Or, maybe you're one of those intelligent "pary people", that call and say someone ripped them off on a drug deal, or stole their drugs. I would say spot on with this one. Enjoy a life of bench warrants, and jail time.

This is for those who put down Carter County. The whole tri state is full of dumb rednecks so how can one area claim to be better than another. Go back to your trailers turn on NASCAR or Hank JR and shut up.

I love it they r getting a taste of there own medicen. when a cop walks into your home and thinks you dont have the right to speak or nothing and the law was not called on you .you are the one that called the law there is no warrant for your arrest they satnd in your home and tell you to shut your mouth or you will go to jail i love it people we have rights this is are home yes if they have a warrant for are arrest that is different and if we done something wrong i am glad to know we have law enforcement to help us but some of them try to bully us well no more for me if i am in the right and i know it and have done nothing wrong and i know it they will be no officer bully me in less he wants to do it in front of a federal judge we have rights it is time to fight back because they carry a bage and a gun they sell them every day at the dollar tree lol and we can make a formal complaint if we feel are rights have been violated go out of grayson and carter county to do and u will get help

FYI, the troopers did have an ARREST warrant, and did announce their presence. In fact, she saw them coming, and chose to "arm" herself. Now, instead of a misdemeanor offense, her actions have landed her a felony. I find it funny how some are so quick to jump bad on the law enforcement, and give the criminals (maybe because you or family members are thugs) a break, and in some cases cheer them on. Just remember the next time you need help, call your local thugs, see how they compare to police.

To the "withheld,s"of the world.I just love the way that you look at people from Carter County. It show,s a lack of common sense on your part. There are so many good people around here.I,d say where you live is just as bad or worse as you think my hometown is.Of course the county is not perfect.Until your town is perfect don,t down Carter County.I get sick of people that say stuff like that.Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and i respect that. That don,t mean that your right though.Cause i can tell you your not.Do some real research on the area and i,d say you would have another opinion!

Posted by: Give me a Break on Jul 3, 2008 at 10:43 PM
you have got to be KIDDING me, a Police Officer gets assaulted, does not matter with what, and there are people on here saying it was the Troopers fault, GIVE ME A BREAK. I would challenge any one of you fools to spend a day doing what these men and woman do, you would lay down in the first hour and give up. why don't you cop haters get a life, quit breaking the law, or whatever you are doing to make you anti law enforcement. I'm sure had the story been the other way around and the story been that the trooper hit the woman, several of you would have wanted blood for the trooper, seems to be a double standard.

The state police I have met in my life all have terrible attitudes and they are never on the good people's side so really I would like to take a broom to one of them myself!!! Go Granny Go!

This is "news"?

Posted by: ToCounselor on Jul 3, 2008 at 01:32 PM
I cracked up reading comments from the counselor also known as hisownfault. I bet he believes you have to get a search warrant to look in a house for a person. That is so funny. Lol the police have to get a search warrant to "look" for someone. Counselor, a search warrant is for a building and to look for evidence. A search warrant is not what is needed. An arrest warrant is to arrest a person. A search warrant is to look for evidence in a crime not a real person. The only time a search warrant is issued for a person is to collect evidence such as DNA etc. Lol this is funny. Serving an arrest warrant does not require a "search warrant". Lol you sound so stupid.

To his own fault: what law school did you go to? An arrest warrant is like having a search warrant. You can enter a house based on an arrest warrant. But I am sure someone with knowledge of Kentucky laws and state police policy would know all this. What law school did you graduate from counselor? I did not know Carter County had a law school.

Hey now dont start bashing d cops, we dont know if he entered w/o announcing or not, these guys have it hard and yes some of'm r BAD COPS, but not all they r human just as we r and do make mistakes, what prob happened is he went 2 arrest her and she(like many others) fought, her choice of weaponery was 2 b desired but we really dont know d specs of this, what was d warrant being served 4??? u cant blame d police 4 doing there jobs,2day it was a broom and laughable but it could b some wacked out drug head with a gun who's already killed x- amt of people, they got a hard job give them AND GRANNY BROOMSTRAW a break.

Posted by: Duane on Jul 3, 2008 at 12:15 PM
this for "reader" Yes the troopers had guns, thats what police officers do to protect carry guns. I guess you would go serve a warrent with no protecrion and not knowing what to expect.

i hope your the one who calls us for help???

This whole story interested me so much, I did a little research. The witch was probably trying to gain altitude and the broom handle accidently hit the trooper as she flew by. The wart on the hag's nose probably blocked her view of the cop's presence. I don't think she intentionally was going for the trooper. Witches only go after kids as they are the only ones small enough to roast in the oven. My research on this is from a book by a momma goose and another book by a couple of grim brothers.

maybe she was in the middle of cleaning

Posted by: reader on Jul 3, 2008 at 12:09 AM
This article does not say what this is about except that the Trooper-(S) went there to serve a warrent. Woman hits a Trooper, and another Trooper is also there, both Troopers most likely had a gun on them. How dumb can you get! Come-on their is more to this story! How can you make a comment when you don't have the details in this story to make one! This is a story that (should not) have a comment section, until an up-date,or more details are given!

Posted by: Wv Hillbilly on Jul 2, 2008 at 10:17 PM
YES this is funny,as i said our law enforcement faces REAL dangers everyday,BUT this was a woman with a broom not a crazy with a bazooka, she shouldnt have attacked him yes but she did and i hope d trooper can have a sense of humor about it,i will guarantee that he preferred a broom 2 d latter.C'mon people have a sense of humor.

Posted by: HIS OWN FAULT on Jul 2, 2008 at 08:40 PM
What is up with this just because he was serving a warrant if he did not have a search warrant he should of not entered the house he's lucky it was just a broom enter my house unannounced and with out a warrant to enter and it wont be a broom. recent case in texas man dressed as police officer entered home killed 2 yr old raped mother and 13 yr girl then killed them then robbed the place in this day and age you dont trust anyone and if he entered unannounced then he is in violation of policy and should be fired and charged with entering so keep us updated wsaz and the name of the officer would be great. these cops are getting out of hand soon they will just come in and start taking things because they want them

to WITHHELD,oh yeah its so bad here, but look where your probably from west virginia.and its so nice there.jerk

Posted by: anony on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:59 PM
How do you know that she was unaware that the state police were there? You don't have a clue what these troopers deal with on a daily basis, how dare you! How do you know he "crept up on her"? Apparently what you don't know is how dangerous these troopers jobs are. Maybe it was a broom this time, but whose to say it won't be a gun next time and some child is left without a parent because "daddy was doing his job"

Posted by: anonymous on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:53 PM
How embarassing! I am from Carter Co, originally! This IS NOT FUNNY per WV Hillbilly! People should take responsiblity for their own actions, instead of blaming everyone else. The State Police are only doing their jobs and they SHOULD NOT have to endure idiots like Tena Pennington!

Posted by: a carter county lady on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:40 PM
honey people r sick of the way the police talk to us they think if they carry a bage and a gun they can just take over u in your home talk to u every way they want but we have rights to they have to honor the laws to and another only happen in carter county a cop had a cop pulled for speeding lollollol....

Posted by: What??? on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:15 PM
I doubt very seriously the police officers entered the home without announcing their presence; but, if they did then that would explain her attack. More than likely, she was hiding in the bedroom...not cleaning it.

Posted by: withheld on Jul 2, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Only in carter county!!!! That place is nothing but a set of crazies there. Beware and do not move there

Posted by: Wv Hillbilly on Jul 2, 2008 at 03:46 PM
Go Grandma, lol this is funny, I'm not saying that our police dont face real dangers everyday, but a broom? she will probably b pled out and should b, unless d trooper is a jerk he probably wants 2 c this over even more than granny, hes no doubt getting it from his co-workers, have a sense of humor I hope that every1 who decides 2 fight law enforcement does it with a broom, maybe she was just trying 2 clean house.

Posted by: Gonzo on Jul 2, 2008 at 03:24 PM
uhhh.. well since the police entered the house without her knowledge and crept up on her I think the trooper deserved a good smack upside the head..lol maybe he should have let his presence be known a little better...he's lucky he didn't get shot!
