FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear is pushing for an
emergency regulation that would give military veterans preference
in hiring for state jobs.
Beshear said Thursday his proposal is expected to go to the
State Personnel Board for consideration on July 18. He said he
expects it to go into effect by July 23.
The governor said the proposed regulation would require that at
least five veterans be interviewed for every state job being
filled, providing five vets applied.
Formerly, veterans were given extra points on exams taken for
various jobs, but much of that testing has been eliminated.
