ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- He's known by his co-workers as a great guy with a great sense of humor. His patients know him as a lifesaver.
Many of those people took a moment to say thanks to Dr. Richard Paulus Tuesday. The cardiologist at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland received the first ever "Chairman's Award" from a company in California.
Company leaders say the doctor's suggestions and recommendations helped them build a better device for heart patients.
Dr. Paulus says he owes any success to his father who taught him some good lessons. His late father, Henry Paulus, was an inventor who developed an artificial heart back in the 1960's.
As of Tuesday, that device will be on display down at KDMC.
