HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A driveway scam is sweeping Boyd County, Ky., and Lawrence County, Ohio.

Police say Glen Stamper, Jonathan Meddings and Rocky Lee Sloan have been conning elderly people, impersonating concrete workers.

Stamper and Meddings were paid $700 to seal James and Shirley Davis' driveway in Russell.

"They worked hard and if they had used the quality of the material. It would have been a great job," Shirley Davis said. "We feel like we've been scammed."

Instead, Stamper and Meddings left the Davis' driveway a sandy concrete material that washed away.

Homes in Ashland, Flatwoods and Proctorville were also hit.

"They were dressed like construction workers--so we just figured they were hard-working people," Shirley Davis said.

It's a shame that these men (if that's what you want to call them) are scamming these innocent elderly people. I hope that they get caught quick before they hurt anyone else my neighbor got caught in this they even went as far as sealing cracks on his her house and you can just take your hand a brush the stuff off. Thank goodness you aired this maybe it will make people more aware and make them say no, It's hard to trust anyone anymore.

Is it still a scam if the people were paid to do a job and the job was completed? This sounds like this is a case of people wanting top quality work for nothing. If you want the job done right you must put in the time to do some research and find a company or person w/ a good background relating to the work at hand !

people who prey on children or the elderly just don't deserve to live!

If the price sounds too good to be true, chances are it's a scam. Also if your not interviewing someone for a task, don't just let anyone that drives up and makes an offer do work then expect it to actually be top quality.

WV is no different. My wifes Grandmother had been hit several times from blacktop sealers also for thosands of dollars. Several times. And the law does nothing to stop these guys. Come on! Why not try that with someone who knows better. They need to get real jobs and quit targeting the elderly. This is why no one is trusted anymore. She even had some guys that came and cut a tree down and when the bank would not clear her check because they knew she was being scammed, then they took her riding mower and gas. REAL MEN?

these scammers should get the harshest sentence possible for preying on the elderly.
