IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Work is wrapping up on the Ironton-Russell Bridge and, after nearly two months of daytime closures, the bridge is now back open to traffic.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have completed most major construction on the project that included repairing the bridge deck, grid panels, lighting and guardrail, as well as addressing specific fatigue areas and updating the strain gauge monitoring system.

The bridge is scheduled for one more closure on Oct. 13, weather permitting, for joint repair, laying asphalt and striping.

Hey Ohio and Wendell, are you qualified in structural bridge inspections? Not insulting you, just trying to guage why I should rely on your judgement of this bridge. I'm closely related to an Ironworker who told me that the bridge is still solid. Yes, it would be nice to have a new bridge, but I believe this bridge is safe.

I agree, the bridge is very old and needs to be replaced soon before some innocent people are hurt. Ashland and Portsmouth have new bridges, I geuss we are not good enough for a new bridge.
