ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner.

The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.

The Republican vice presidential nominee has been accused of firing a commissioner to settle a family dispute. Palin supporters have called the investigation politically motivated.

Monegan says he was dismissed as retribution for resisting pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

Hello i just want to say one thing for the people who are Obama supporters do u all remember the terriorist who killed lots of people who hijacked our plane and tore lifes apart because of 9 11 and his name is OSAMA BIN LADEN! The facts are: she was found to be proper and lawful in her firing of Monegan. However, this AP article slants is as if she was found in error. It is an OPINION that she was wrong. The report actually said she was not wrong and she had every legal base to fire this guy. She had substantiated proof to back her decision. Amazing how people can twist the proof for their own political gain.

"MORE OF THE SAME" is more than a campaign slogan voiced during the Democratic Convention. Abuse of powers have also been committed by those currently and/or recently in the executive branch (Cheney and Bush), judicial branch (Gonzales), and legislative branch (Delay). Kudos to the poster claiming this site is biased because they are not posting his comments. You preach something long enough and you start to believe it. I believe this was Hitler's philosophy also. I supposed WSAZ is somehow allowing political operatives screen comments to determine allowable comments. There is plenty of negative info posted toward Obama on many other stories, including this one. Your theory is ludicrous. Someday you guys will realize you are only convincing yourselves of the MSM bias and quit believing you can convince the rest of us. Obama has received far more negative coverage from all networks according to a recent study than McCain.

The way this story reads shows just how leftist the media is, and how much they support Obama. The actual report says she has been found innocent of any wrong doing in firing Monegan; that she was "proper and lawful in firing him". So, if that is the case, then why make the story sound as if she was unlawful in doing so? The media is afraid of her and they want Obama to win. Good grief! So, if it was lawful and she committed no crime in her firing, then why is she getting slammed in the media for this? She made a tough call. The guy did something wrong. He lost his job. IT was not over a family dispute. Please report the facts, and with out the falsities. This report brings you to the level of the Enquirer and other wacko magazines. Whoever wrote this article for the AP is definitely biased in their reporting. What ever happened to truthful news reporting? FACTS vs OPINIONS? The main stream media has no integrity anymore. The other To Pablo has it right. As soon as Bush won the election in 2000 the dems started making up lies about the economy. The continued spreading the lies in 2004. Under Bush and the Rep. Congress, the records show unemployment was at an all time low. The economy was at an all time high. However, when the dems took over in 2006, the economy started to sour. Obama SUED the mortgage cos. for not lending $$ to those who had no job, no $, no way of paying the loan back, so they could buy a home they could not afford. THAT IS A MATTER OF RECORD IN CHICAGO COURT OF LAW. Also, OBAMA announced his campaign from Ayers' living room. FACTS. HE has been friends with him for a very long time. There are so many FACTS out against OBAMA, that, yes, it is scary to have him as Pres. I don't want a Socialist Communist running for POTUS. The headline makes this sound sooo bad but when you go read the whole article as well as other ones out on the net, you will see that she had valid reasons for getting rid of this guy. She had emails that he had sent to others in government questioning her authority on budget matters which are documented as evidence in the matter. These alone are enough for her to fire him. A governor cannot let someone get by with insubordination.

Larry, I'm personally glad that this came out before the election. We, little people are always the last to know about scandals like this and its usually after the election. To the one commenter that said that she did nothing that any of us wouldn't do, you're wrong. I would not fire somebody because they were getting a divorce. That's dirty politics plain and simple. I think this has back fired on McCain more than he ever could have imagined.

The investigatin was underway BEFORE she was picked to be a VP running mate. Those of you who claim other wise are letting your party loyalism blind you to the facts. Do you not remember the stories right after the RN convention of how others esp the REPUBS were questioning the whole vetting process and McCain's pick of Palin? Wake up, the Dems had nothing to do with her being a religious zelot, her book banning campain,her abuse of power issues, or her husband being a part of an anti-American militia group calling for the succession of Alaska from the US. If you are going to defend someone, at least open your eyes to the good and the bad of them, their history and their family so you are prepared to defend them fully.

Jess got it. At least someone knows what is going on prior to opening their mouths on here. The investigation was ongoing prior to her pick. If Senator McCain and truly vetted hear he would have never picked anyone under these circumstances and no one can change my mind on that. Heck no one running for President when pick someone in that situation if they were truly aware. But then again his first two picks were removed from his considerations by Karl Rove I guess everyone forgot that already. And yes it was made up of more Republicans than Democrats so dont go saying it was a witch hunt. I'm now for Obama.

Its good that these things come out before the election. I have said all along that im voting Obama/Biden but the other night my husband asked me if i was going to vote early i said no because i dont want to have my vote in and then something terrible come out that would make me regret my vote. Also im pretty sure this investigation was going on before she was chosen as McCains running mate. The Legislative Committee that conducted the investigation that found that she abused her power consisted of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. Do the math...this wasn't politically motivated. It was a bipartisan effort and she was found out. Period. The actions of her and her husband Todd are finally coming out. Sorry, GOP.

Why did McCain choose Palin as his running mate? My answer to this question is so that he can get the women voters to vote for him. I am glad this investigation is over. She should have just admitted to it in the first place. Now she seems untrustworthy. I am also glad that Senator McCain tried to stop the hate and scare mongering at his campaigns today. That makes me respect him more.

Nonsense! It was "likely a factor"? You can't convict a plaintiff who "likely" robbed a bank, or a person who "likely" raped someone, or another who "likely" killed someone. This is so politically motivated and Democraticly sponsored that it is sickening. Brak "definitely" took money from Bill Ayers, definitely took huge contributions from foreigners, was definitely neck deep in responsibility for the housing crisis, yet what does the news say about any of this-NOTHING! However, Palin's controversy arises because she "likely" held a grudge. They said it was not the sole reason...so what was? Or what were they? I guess there is no need to mention that because that's apparently not news. Unbelievable!
