LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell's latest campaign-finance report shows he had nearly $6 million in the bank for the stretch run of his campaign for a fifth term.

The report that McConnell is filing Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission shows he raised $2.6 million in the three months ending Sept. 30.

McConnell's campaign says he had $5.7 million cash on hand at the end of the quarter.

For the entire campaign, McConnell has raised $17.8 million.

McConnell - the Senate's top-ranking Republican - is locked in a tough race against Democratic businessman Bruce Lunsford, who is expected to announce his campaign-finance numbers later in the day.

Iam worried about the upcoming election and the blame game. sure it will be great to get a fellow democrat in there. but who are we going to blame when this dam economy tanks. if the american people are mad at 6 percent un employment imagine when its like 15 percent. alot of democratic seats are open in just 2010 and palin is a rock star for 2012. i have a feeling we need to be careful what we wish for. hillary would of been a better choice for 2012 in the long term, cause we will own the senate with 60 deats and win huge margins in the house. Who are we going to blame when this republican economy tanks and we are caught behind the wheel of the car drunk. maby we should pass the keys to mccain? cause 2010 is just around the corner along with a great depression. The top banker in the country said today it will take 10 years to fix this mess george bush got us in, why should we want to get the blame. no way are amercians going to vote for us if this economy tanks in less than 2 years.

Well, guess what!!! Bruce Lunsford is right. BIG OIL, GAS AND WALL STREET all have paid for McConnell's ticket to the Senate since 1984. You have fooled the people of Kentucky long enough. Mitch, it is time for you to go!

With the mess this country is in from the last 8 years of republican rule, I don't see how any of my Kentucky friends could even consider voting for McConnell. The Iraq War, based in a lie - republican. The economy, 8 years of Bush/Cheney and 6 of those years with a republican congress. Our civil liberities being taken away (Patriot Act) by republicans. The Justice Department firing democrats and replacing them with republicans, Cheney's old company given no-bid contracts. The list goes on and on. These republicans, also known as facists don't share the values that most of us Appalachian folks have. I'm not crazy about Obama, but we can't have McCain/Palin and McConnell elected and continue with this path our country is on. Retire McConnell and West Virginia's Shelley Moore Capito and put them out to pasture.
