TOLLESBORO, Ky (WSAZ) -- Sheriff's deputies in Lewis County have arrested a man they say was trying to sell prescription pills to a confidential informant.

On Friday Eddie Smith, of Tollesboro, was pulled over in his hometown and deputies discovered a pill bottle with more than 700 Xanax pills inside.

The pills had an estimated street value of $7,000.

Smith is charged with trafficking a controlled substance and second offense possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Lewis County Detention Center.

No wonder our cops are losing the drug war. Even I know xanax doesn't cost $10 per pill, and I don't even do them. People think doctors are out of control with writing oxy scripts. From what I've been told, xanax is one of the easiest drugs ever to get prescribed. I worry a lot, am stressed out, and have trouble sleeping; here's your xanax (that's not Florida, that's around here). The number of folks on some sort of nerve pills is probably staggering. I think this is why they are fairly cheap. I bet almost everyone knows somebody with a prescription, whether you know it or not. It also does not mix well with alcohol or pain pills. I'm willing to bet that most oxycontin or methadone overdoses have nerve pills and/or alcohol as a big contributing factor. I had a friend die as a result of this very thing. If you know someone struggling with drug addiction, don't be afraid to reach out.
