Bullseye! It's the coveted target for every archer!
But, in one local school district, a perfect shot is the norm rather than the exception. That trend in excellence has earned them a trip to the top spot where perfection and passion meet.

With a very steady hand a keen eye, these students are shooting right on target.

“We practice three days a week, about two hours each day. So, it’s a lot of practice, especially for the young ones,” said Coach Jeff Jones.

“It’s fun,” said Brooke Reynolds, a fifth grade archer.

Brooke Reynolds is one of the young ones where practice makes perfect. She's the number one archer in her age group in Ohio.

“I shot one arrow into another and it split down the middle,” said Austin Life.

Austin has bragging rights for a much different reason.

“I’ve shafted three other sets with my hunting bow, “ said Austin.

It’s this perfect precision that’s earned this team a trip to the national archery competition. Only 13 teams out of more than 100 in Ohio qualified--Meigs Local is one of them.

“It’s really awesome. These kids are truly amazing,” said Coach Jones.

The good thing about archery is you don’t have to be an outstanding athlete, super strong or the perfect weight and size—it’s all about the mental.

“It levels the playing field. You can be a computer geek or a star athlete and still have to follow the same rules and use the same equipment,” said Coach Jones.

And the lessons beyond the target are what keep these kids right on target.

“There’s a lot of concentration and focus that they can also use in the classroom when they’re taking a test or when the teacher is talking to them,” said Coach Jones.

Meigs Local's elementary, middle and high school teams all placed second at the Ohio state competition. All three teams will compete at the national competition in Louisville on Saturday. They're up against 3000 other students from 23 states. We'll let you know how they do.

Congrats kids! It is great to see kids involved in activities like this. It is a good sport to be involved with, and it keeps them out of trouble. I've been shooting for 11 years and I think these kids could beat me! Again, congrats!
