IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The man charged with starting a fire at a South Point apartment complex has been found not guilty of the crime.

That was the verdict of the jury in trial of 27-year-old Johnny Sammons, Jr.

The early morning fire back on December 9 destroyed 2 apartments, including the apartment where Sammons and his family lived. Two adults and 2 children lived in the other apartment.

A grand jury indicted Sammons on 5 counts of arson in early March.

Sammons trial in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court began on Monday. The jury returned the not guilty verdict Tuesday.

Sammons testified in his own defense during the trial.

Sammons could have faced from three to 10 years on the first degree arson charges had he been convicted.

why should he be found guilty when clearly they had no proof he did anything. Besides a 16 year old who seemed to have memory problems. Sure it seems right to send a man, a father of two kids to PRISON for 48 years for something he did not do???? YA sure that JUST ???? NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

he was not guilty of the crimes committed but Lawrence county had to blame someone. I understand they had to do their job i'm just glad everyone opened their eyes to the truth before he was taken away from his babies for life for something he didn't do. sad thing is they send innocent people away every day.

It seems like this is always happening to these people, but if the fire was started not on accident, the man should have been found guilty.
