CHARLESTON, WV (WSAZ)---Word of a store closing could hurt everyone from shoppers in Charleston's Town Center Mall, Ashland's Kyova Mall and New Boston, Ohio Shopping Center, to actress Sarah Jessica Parker.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Steve and Barry's is expected to file for bankruptcy this week.

The store carries inexpensive athletic clothing: along with Sarah Jessica Parker's clothing line Bitten.

If the bankruptcy goes through, all Steve and Barry's stores across the country could be in danger of closing.

Sounds like some people should be watching the RNC right about now. I'm all for McCain/Palin. I work and pay the same gas prices, mortgage and taxes. I am blessed to be able to shop at Abercrombie and Steve and Barry's. God Bless America!

Yeah, it is another one of Bush's plans, if gas wasn't so high, people could shop more, and the prices in the stores would come down even more, because of the demand.

We'll me and my husband work and make a fairly decent wage, and still like to go to SandB, because of the price and how they wear. the cost of food, gas, etc. you need to save however you can, I was on welfare once temporaliy to help us out when we both lost our jobs, it helped us a great deal until we could get back on our fee, so being on welfare doesn't make you a horrible person.

It is really sad to hear that steve and berry's is closing. my kids love to shop there and the clothes does seem to last them. we also bought jackets there that have lasted now for 3 years. so as for the ones who says its junk i guess it depends on the person who wears it. as for the ones who says its a welfare store well you are probably just a spoiled brat... we have two incomes and still cannot afford the name brands. maybe they should lower their prices so others can shop there. as for american made every where you go is usually from another country unless you make it yourself. i also shop walmart and most of its stuff is from china. like c. said wake up people times are getting harder on the economy and its only going to get worse...

It is a shame about the KYOVA Mall. The reason the KYOVA Mall is having such a rough time is that they made the initial rents too high. Now, they can't keep good stores. Also, they have not done enough to get good FOOD around the mall. A big reason for this is that they only recently allowed alcohol sales, which were needed to bring in restaurants like TGI Fridays or perhaps a decent steakhouse. Another thing they should have done in the beginning was make the anchor stores two stories tall. That way the Sears store would be able to carry their full line and you wouldn't have to go to the Huntington Mall to get the good things from Sears. Bring in a Best Buy, it would do well.

I'm on welfare and I shop at AE, S&B,Walmart and Goodwill! So? What of it? Get over yourself thinking your better then anyone on welfare. My husband has full time job. We have a house and a car, But we still NEED help. If I can buy nice clothes on sale at AE I'll get them, If there is something I like At S&B I get it. If it will help save me a penny from what I would've spent I have no complaints. I grew up having 95% of my clothing from yard sales, and hand me downs, so I am Pleased to have new clothes from anywhere. If I spend less money buying clothing, that leaves more money for food and bills, and don't forget our ever rising Gasoline. You PPL complaining about stores being for welfare, should really watch your mouths, the way the economy is going, WE WILL ALL BE ON WELFARE! before too long. It will end up being a modern day great depression, just like 1930's I have been expecting it for years. You had better brace yourselves your in for a rude awakening!!

Mike you are a idiot Bush is not the blame for every thing that goes wrong

People saying this store is only for those on welfare, are mean. I find this store to be full of great items for the whole family. Why shop at the Gap, or Abercrombie, when clothing can be purchased at a better price, at Steve & Barry's? We are not on welfare, we like the clothing. It is good quality, for a great price.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 11, 2008 at 09:20 PM
To 03:39pm you said "all their clothes are made in sweatshops any way" Well last I checked so are Old Navy and Gap and so on and everything else we have around here. There are not to many tailored making Brooks Brother shops around here.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 11, 2008 at 09:17 PM
Well its closing not because of our area but whats happen to it on the New York Stock Exchange. Then we had several restaurants close down in the area that are not publically owned. Just wait, more will happen and hit us around here. We have not felt the economic woes yet because no place in our tri state has never really had anything to start with in the first place. Sorry people wont have jobs.

Posted by: Would Shop on Jul 11, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Why not move into the soon to be empty, JCPenneys builing at the Ashland Town Center? That mall is always busy and an inexpensive store would probably do well in there. No one, and I mean NO ONE, shops at the old Kyova Mall. I was there two weeks ago at noon on a Friday and there wasn't ten cars in the whole lot.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 11, 2008 at 04:31 PM
They hardly ever have anything my family can wear. If your not skinny forget it, you won't find a thing.

Posted by: kd on Jul 11, 2008 at 03:53 PM
The store sucks Oh Well maybe they can put some descent store in there people will shop at!!!!!!!!!!! The are a rip off.

To Mike (of 7:02 posting) I am surprised with your grammar and inability to create a coherent sentence that you could hold a job. You are rude, uneducated, and your kids probably get made fun of anyway for having an idiot for a father.

I know somebody that buys all their clothes at Steve and Barry's and he is not on welfare. All of his clothes t-shirts, sweatshirts and jeans have lasted a really long time. My boyfriend has even bought some really nice shoes there. I will be sad if they close. The reason they are probably closing has nothing to do with their clothes. I have seen the store full. It probably has to do with the fact that their clothes are so cheap. They are probably not selling them high enough and going bankrupt.

Posted by: Jennifer on Jul 11, 2008 at 12:55 PM
I agree the Steve and Barry's in the Huntington mall smells awful. As far as their clothes, we've bought a some college shirts, sweatshirts and some of their jeans. The sweatshirt i've had for about 3 years now and still looks good. My husbands jeans have lasted him but the t-shirts aren't that good. I only get to shop there when I'm in KY or Charleston though because i can't stomach the one in Huntington

"Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 10, 2008 at 06:57 PM Where will all those little children working in the sweat shops sell their clothing now?" WAL-MART has been selling sweatshop labor for years.

Posted by: You people are rude on Jul 11, 2008 at 10:08 AM
I think some of you saying it is just a place to shop if you are on Welfare is just mean and rude. Since you have shopped in the store, and have bought things I take it you are on welfare then huh? Maybe you should think next time before you start saying things that you know nothing about.

Posted by: Kimberly on Jul 11, 2008 at 10:01 AM
I have 3 teenagers and they like their clothes and I like the prices. I am not on welfare either. I think their jeans last a whole lot longer than the expensive ones. I hope it doesn't close.

Posted by: Quality on Jul 11, 2008 at 09:42 AM
Just depends on what u buy i bought 3 Ohio State hoodies 3 yrs ago and there still going strong but my ill advised daughter bought a wvu hoodie and it fell apart in a month go figure but i guess it should have been expected you cant compare apples to oranges

Posted by: Matt on Jul 11, 2008 at 08:47 AM
I buy all my jeans there and every pair has lasted longer than any pair of Levis I have owned!

Posted by: Mike on Jul 11, 2008 at 08:27 AM
What else is new for the Kyova Mall, formally Cedar Knoll Galleria, the mall that has about 5 stores. This mall has to be run by the mofia or something, it's a tax right off. It's gotta be, the mall doesn't make any money. Steve and Barry's closing there doesn't surprise me, everything else has just about closed there.

Posted by: mike on Jul 11, 2008 at 07:02 AM
What's funny about there clothes (is with there funny saying t-shirts)Everybody knows where you get your clothes.Where i live everybody refers to the store as the "welfare" store. which means as a nurse. That I won't shop there because I don't want my kids made fun of. But, Some of there stuff are Funny.

Posted by: Megan on Jul 11, 2008 at 03:06 AM
The store has clothes for really great prices but the smell of the store at least the one at the Huntington Mall makes you sick. I cannot even go in there to shop.

Posted by: Ron on Jul 11, 2008 at 02:00 AM
Ha! I've never even heard of that place.

Posted by: who gives a crap on Jul 11, 2008 at 01:38 AM
Who really cares...it was a really crappy store any way!!! If it was as good as you ppl say it is then it would not be closing..so booo yahhh

Posted by: someone who cares on Jul 11, 2008 at 12:54 AM
I love S&B thay are the best place to go not every one can aford to go to Gap debs and all the other ones in the mall if that close that store then every one in lincoln county wont have no clothes because that is all we can aford i have got a millon shirt from there i dont have one problem with them. dont close them down

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM
This is terrible. My husband buys all his clothes there. They are really good clothes, & cheaper than wal mart ever could be. I hope they don't close.

Posted by: Michele on Jul 10, 2008 at 11:32 PM
First of all, the comment made by "SO" about its only a good place if you are on welfare, well that was just rude and very uncalled for. The store is cheap, and the clothes arent very good, but thats my personal opinion. Im sure there are plenty of people who do like it.

Posted by: Greg on Jul 10, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Ok Lee tell me what clothes are "made in America". While your at it tell me anything that is 100% made in America anymore. I guess everything you own is "made in America". But I doubt that, unless you are naked and living in a cave. Where is the computer you are using made? Wise up? Maybe you should wake up.

Posted by: So on Jul 10, 2008 at 09:34 PM
I hate that store, I thought man, these are some deals and they all feel apart. It is only a good place to shop if you are on WelFare

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 10, 2008 at 06:57 PM
Where will all those little children working in the sweat shops sell their clothing now?

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 10, 2008 at 06:44 PM
most of the clothes that are "in style" are cheap made and arent worth it, the hoodies and tshirts are better

Posted by: That sucks. on Jul 10, 2008 at 06:17 PM
Some people on here are saying Steve and Barry's has nothing worth carring home, tell that to an underprivelaged child. I took a kid up to the one in Charleston and spent 200.00 dallors he got so many clothes, he was the happiest child on earth that day. I hope these stores don't close.

Posted by: Amy on Jul 10, 2008 at 04:37 PM
I guess my husband will be surprised. He likes the store, and "thinks" it's cheaper. I say "thinks" it's cheaper because in the short term, it is cheaper, but usually within a year's wear (or less) there are already holes in his jeans. And, he has several pairs of jeans; it's not like he only has three pairs. I've learned to just pay the $10-$20 more for jeans that will last 2-3 years . Just my dealings w/ em. I'm sure other people have had better luck.

Posted by: Lee on Jul 10, 2008 at 03:58 PM
They didn't sell anything worth carrying home. Like most cheap overseas products they don't last. I hope people wise up and "buy America Made" products before it's too late.

Posted by: Tito on Jul 10, 2008 at 03:38 PM
I am not surprised one bit. Everytime I am out at the KYOVA Mall there are only around 8 to 10 cars in front of S&B's.

Posted by: CC on Jul 10, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Oh no! I love S&B!!!
