Local coffee fans will be able to safely drink double shots and lattes for now.

Tuesday, Starbucks announced the first 50 of 600 planned closings. No area locations made the list.

According to the company website, Starbucks will close two locations in Columbus, Ohio, one in Louisville, Kentucky and one near Wheeling, West Virginia.

Starbucks is streamlining its business through the first half of 2009 and plans to shutter under-performing locations. More announcements will come in the following weeks.

To anon (1:09PM), Espresso Mojo is much better than Starbucks in terms of their espresso drinks and blended drinks. Unfortunately they no long have a drive through location. They moved from the 3rd Avenue location because Marshall purchased the property for the softball field. So Espresso Mojo moved to Proctorville, OH. However, they have closed the Proctorville, OH. They currently operate at St. Mary's Hospital and HIMG. If they ever opened a sit down location, I would definitly go there rather than Starbucks. Any news on whether they will be re-opening the drive-through location anytime soon? If so, where?

Espresso Mojo in Huntington is the better than Starbucks. However, they closed their drive through location and now have locations at St. Mary's Hospital and HIMG.

oh yeah, let's see now...weighing the choices of most people here in the poorest state in the nation and with such high unemployment and min wage....buy overrated, overpriced coffee or feeding my kids and buying gas to get to my min wage job? hmmmmm.........

I have a feeling the Starbucks at Merrits Creek will close. I love starbucks as well, and I do not want any of the local locations to close. After all, there is a location at the mall, inside kroger, and then at pullman square. If you had to make the decision.. which one would you close? Kroger or Merrit's creek.. :(

Starsucks needs to close all locations. I get so tired of their commercialized "culture" and goofy people pronouncing venti as "ventay." It's ridiculous and the coffee sucks. I think Burger King's coffee kicks's Starbucks butt in a Grande way.

Thank You for updating us. I was wondering whether any of the local news would report on this. You should find out whether the local locations are underperforming. Most stores that will be closing were opened after 2006. I am confident that the Pullman location will be safe because everytime there is an event such as the summer concert series, the Starbucks is packed. If you can, please try to interview the local locations. Even the local location don't know their fate yet but you could ask how they are performing.
