Public information officer, Dan Pfeiffer, says the victim was Ray Eblin.

Eblin had been swimming with another adult and two children, and had been drinking beer prior to jumping from the bridge into the water, according to Pfeiffer.

The cause of death has been ruled a fractured neck with subsequent drowning.

NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) -- A 47-year-old Nelsonville man is dead after he drown in the Hocking River Wednesday afternoon.

Nelsonville Police got the call around 2 pm and responded to the scene located off Hocking Parkway in a wooded area near Hocking College.

"Apparently he jumped from about 14 feet up, and was on a railroad bridge that crosses the Hocking River into 3 feet of water and witness say he struggled and then went under," said public information officer Dan Pfeiffer.

The man's name is not being released until family can be notified.
