HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- People in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia are making less than the national average.

The national median income is $50,740.

The average income in Ohio is $47,750.

In West Virginia, it's $40,103.

The bluegrass state comes in at $39,678.

In fact, Kentucky is the only state in our region that didn't see an increase.

Maryland and Virginia are the only two states in Appalachia that are not below the national median income.

The number of Appalachians in poverty is now at 13 million.
