SCIOTOVILLE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An abrupt change in leadership Tuesday stunned some, but not all, in our region's only charter school system.
After meeting in a special session, the Sciotoville Community School Board accepted the resignation of superintendent and high school principal Dennis Decamp. The long-time Scioto County educator was at the charter school's helm since the community broke away from the Portsmouth City School District in 2000.
Board President Bill Shope says Decamp said he wanted to pursue other interests. But many in the district say the special meeting and Decamp leaving the school immediately with an attorney raises more questions than answers.
WSAZ Reporter Randy Yohe asked the school board president if this resignation was unexpected.
"No, but as you said it comes at a difficult time but our leadership will prove that we will be successful," Bill Shope said.
Decamp did not return calls for comment. Deputy Superintendent Rod Walker was appointed Superintendent for the system and current teacher and former high school prinicipal David Surrey now takes over as principal at East High.
