PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) - A southern Ohio vigil for domestic
violence victims will include a talk by a local teacher who police
say was stabbed in front of students by her estranged husband.

An organizer of the Oct. 23 candlelight vigil in Portsmouth says
Christi Layne has been there and can speak from a personal point of
view about what she went through.

Layne was attacked Feb. 7 in front of her fifth-grade class at
Notre Dame Elementary School in Portsmouth.

Authorities said her husband, William Layne, also stabbed
another woman and later apparently shot himself to death at his
home during a three-hour standoff with police.

The vigil at the Scioto County Courthouse is being
planned by the Southern Ohio Domestic Violence Shelter.

I pray this woman, the children and their families have been able to recover emotionally from this, whatever amount of recovery you could do after something so horrible happening. Such a cruel situation forced upon all of these people and children. This is exactly why it takes people time to leave their abuser, because this is what you fear will happen. Even after the first situation, you immediately fear what could happen and you stay thinking time will make it better. I don't even know how you could stop things like this from happening anymore because each incident you hear about is getting worse. (Read the indictment for the million dollar house as another example of completely losing control). Why can't people just control themselves and realize what they are doing to everyone???

My sister wasn't so lucky. Her husband murdered her in October 2007. Thank you so much for speaking out, Ms. Layne. I believe if my sister had someone to be inspired by, she would have found her courage to take a stand. She would be alive. You are a true hero for sharing your story with others.

I think thats Awesome that she is willing to speak out for about what she went through & just maybe help another abuse victim! It is so harder than everyone makes it out to be, "just leave him" you dont know till you've been there! It is easier said than done let me tell you! So I hope she touches hearts out there and that some can stand up for what is right & fight for their happieness & life back!
