PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- When Sen. Barack Obama visits our region Thursday, some undecided voters will pay attention to issues like the economy and the war.

But it seems others already have decided to vote against the Democrat based on his skin color. Obama campaign workers at Scioto County’s Democratic headquarters confirmed that some locals said they refuse to vote for Obama because he's black.

"There is a percentage that say they will not vote for Barack becasue of his color," said Jeanette Lunsford, an Obama campaign worker.

After going door-to-door in Scioto county, Gordy Fowlds, another Obama campaign worker, said at least one in 10 Scioto County residents reject Obama on race -- some even using a frequently used racial slur. But Fowlds said some on the racial fence look at their wallets and start leaning toward Obama.

"Some say, in spite of the racism , they will vote for Obama because he's the best candidate for the economy," Fowlds said.

According to a newspaper headline, race could defeat Obama in the Southeast. Scioto County Democratic officials talked with a few locals who agree with the headline and cite a national poll that found a third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks.

The Democratic party vice chair in Scioto County said she's disheartened by the race issue, but admits she was among many white Scioto County residents who was unfamiliar with black people.

"I've never worked directly with African-Americans; it's been an eye opener, said Carolyn Andrews with the Scioto County Democratic Party.

But what about racial feelings outside Democratic headquarters?

Scioto County Republican party Chair Dr. Terry Johnson said plenty of Democrats are changing sides, but he said it's because of differences in conservative values on gun control and right to life. Johnson said no Democrat now pledging Republican said he or she switched because of race.

I know what Barack Hussain has planned for America.. and it's not good.. I beg to differ Jenny, Muslim extremist are terrorist.. No not all Muslims are terrorists, but the people that Obama associate with is! Barrack Hussain Obama has always been tied in to terrorists and radicals who want to take over our nation.

Posted by: Jenny on Oct 16, 2008 at 05:53 PM
PLEASE STOP THE IGNORANCE. It is just plain stupid to call all Muslims terrorists. We have a large Muslim community here in Charleston and they've never hurt a soul. How do you idiots respond to that? You people spewing hate and total ignorance are the reason that the rest of the nation sees WV as a bunch of dumb hilljacks. It is beyond embarassing.

Some people (racist) need to open up their eyes and see that race is not an issue! Obama is a very smart individual who is very sincere in what he says and we need a change that's for sure. It makes me sick how there's people in POVERTY here in Portsmouth who say that they will not vote for Obama because he is "black" or he is "too young". That's silly talk, and people need to open up their eyes and recognize that we need a change for the better, and that change starts with Barack Obama. Anyone who votes for McCain is just flat out DUMB! They obviously have no common sense in believing in McCain and Palins STUPIDITY and LIES! McCain staight up looks like he came out of a scary movie, and on Jay Leno the other night, they showed a true, real clip of McCain making a speech and Saying "My fellow prisoners". Ain't that the truth? And Palin, she is a GOOD SPEAKER, and that's it. She is filled with lies just like McCain, and they could give a crap less about us.Vote for the best choice.

I am sad to see that so many people in our area refuse to vote for anyone based on the color of skin. It is a depressing day when someone will not vote for the future, simply because they cannot educate themselves on the truth, and would rather harp on old ideology. Even if you disagree on many of the stances of Barack Obama, or John McCain, one should educate themselves on their political ideas instead of false character values. Obama is not a Muslim, and John McCain is not a senile old man. Both run on different platforms and should be judged on that and THAT alone. Voting simply on race is one of the major reasons America is viewed as "backward" compared to the rest of the world. How long will it take for Obama and McCain to dispel the horrible lies circulating the internet? Sad to say it could cost either one them the election.

Posted by: anon on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Forget the fact that he is black...we should all be focusing on the fact that he is a Muslim terrorist.

Posted by: JC on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:17 PM
Race is being used to manipulate Americans. If it wasn't, then why does it keep being brought up. If the guy is winning in the poles, why does anyone even think racism is a factor? I know why...because ACORN fabricated numerous voters registrations in effort to create a large lead so people would jump on the bandwagon. Pretty bad that America is this stupid. The man has no plans and if he does, he has no idea how to implement them. I am a democrat voting republican because if I am not safe, it won't matter how much money I have got. I also don't need someone in office to manipulate me into thinking I am a bad person if I don't agree with him. I hope we find that people are merely saying they will vote for Obama for fear of the racist-bashing accusers hunting them down, instead of really thinking a person with no resume that merely voted "present" during the 143 days in the Senate could really run a country.

I was watching tv as McCain was at a rally. He stood up for Obama when one of McCain's supporters was badmouthing Obama. That in itself shows McCain's true character. Oh, by the way, I'm a democrat for McCain. When Obama said that he could get Clinton's supporters votes, but she probably couldn't get his, there is where he lost my support. Such arrogance isn't for me.

I figure most people don't really have the guts to say they are going to vote for Obama. He will do us good. If we stick with McCain we will be poor and shopping at goodwill. O wait we already are. Do you really want to make it worse by putting him in? Ask your self that everytime you fill up your gas tank and try to but a gallon of milk. Sanity is being lost by everyone. You go to Walmart during the week hardly anyone is there. Its just going to get worse if you put another republican in office.

Posted by: Jeff on Oct 11, 2008 at 11:37 AM
No, having a position that you don't trust someone because of his voting record is understandable and directly within your right. To not vote for someone because you don't trust him because of his skin color, that makes you a racist!!! As for Chris Rock, he openly endorsed Bill Clinton every chance that he got and the last time I checked President Clinton was about as white as you can get. To try and justify racism in any form isn't convenient it's degrading and insulting to the majority of citizens in this wonderful country.

Posted by: Me on Oct 11, 2008 at 09:46 AM
I have never been racist in my life. But it seems like the black race is trying to play this race card all the time. They are the ones causing others to be racist,by their stupidity.I don't think of Obama as being black.I and many many others think of him as a radical terrorist supporter. Please wake up people. This is not a joke.I love my country, and hope and pray to God peoples eyes will open and see him for what he really is.Have a great day!

Hey Jen? Has anyone told you that's what makes America great. We have the right to protest.Even to burn the flag in disagreement. That's what wars have been fought over and blood is shed, to protect those freedoms, whether we agree with those that do it or not, but we DO have the freedom. If you disagree then go to Iran or somewhere, then perhaps you'll appreciate our freedom, that apparently you and others take for granted. And did you think you really needed to tell us Barack is Black?OMG I hadn't noticed! But again under your philosophy, he probably CHOSE to be black just to annoy you! If your idea of education is watching tid bits of sound bites....Lord Help Us ALL! Many many people protested and burned flags against the Vietnam war. Hence why other countries are jealous of us, because of our freedoms.Which also means people of any race or gender can run for President of the U.S...if you don't like it..don't let the door hit you in the arse..plz just leave the flag on your way out.

Good one Mike! You can't refute the facts stated by the Joe,Jen, and Concerned voter so you call them "stupid" Most people quit doing that in third grade, but you held on to it, refined it, and hit them with it when it really hurts. Well I guess you win. I mean calling someone "Stupid" ALWAYS trumps facts so I guess the score is Liberals 1, Conservatives 0. Impressive!

I guess I shouldn't have expected anything motre intelligent, however it was still disappointing to see you didn't even TRY to defend your original post. Figures!

You are sadly mistaken, but it is excusable because your just repeating what someone has told you. IF you will remember, Bill signed NAFTA into existence, the Republicans, led by Newt, balanced the budget through the Contract for America; something Bill refused to sign several times, but finally came around. The housing crisis has the Dems' (Barney, Chris Dobbs, and even your boy Barak's) fingerprints all over it..it's called "Affordable Housing". You Libs cried we went into Iraq for the oil, but guess you were dead wrong again. If we were there for the oil, then why were we paying OPEC $150 a barrel this summer. Opec played their part in where the economy is today, also. When gas went up,so did trans. costs, and therefore, so did the products. So tell us again how Bush's policies got us here? In fact, instead of the rhetoric, why don't you enlighten us as to what Bush's "economic policies are." I don't believe you know.

Barrack Hussain Obama is black but his best buddie is a white man named Ayers who is a terrorist.. one who stomped on our flag after 911 and spent time in jail years ago for bombing in the USA. Get educated people.. and also watch some of the famous Rev. Wrights sermons... spewing out his hatred for America.. especially white America. While you at it watch an abortion video or 2.. then if you can vote for this devil then go ahead.

CENSORED BY WSAZ: Two posts--one about Baraks vote against post-abortion medical aid to children who survive late term abortions, and one concerning Barak's lack of substance. Niether contained profanity, graphic content, or directly attacked anyone but Barak, and WSAZ felt the need to censor both. Also did not post my comment about Barak's association with William Ayers earlier in the week. Looks like those who make their living through "freedom of speech" feel that right only extends to them. I'll be surprised if they post this.

I am a middle aged white women who is proud to be (mostly) liberal. Proud not to judge people, but to let God take care of that. Proud to embrace all of mankind. Proud to think the constitution is important. Proud to be educated and able to make informed positions. Conservatism has come to mean close-minded and not open to new ideas. Abortion? No I'm not for it in most cases. What bothers me is professing Christianity while living a racist, judgemental life. How can it be balanced? It can't.

Those who feel that blacks have more rights than whites "nowadays" should look to history. When a race of people have been beaten and held back by their white slave masters, had to fight to attend the same quality schools and get the right to vote you can't honestly say that granting them their freedom, the right to attend the same schools and vote is making up for all of the time they were held back while the white race progressed. Congress and the courts have recognized this imbalance and granted certain privileges to blacks in the form of scholarships, quotas, etc. in order for this "catching up" to occur. The courts have also said this is not permanent. If you think blacks have more rights than whites you should look to the criminal justice system. Blacks are incarcerated at a substantially higher rate than whites, have a greater chance of getting the death penalty, and longer prison sentences. And before you say it, studies show that it isn't because they commit more crime...

Bushes experiance, 2 generations doesn't seem to have done much to help. Perhaps instead of using old outdated views we need to be looking at new ideas FROM new people. Most anyone else would be running from the fire instead of right into it. Whoever wins and whoever is running SURELY deserve our respect, NO matter thier age or color or gender! I don't see any of your names on any ticket, but your the first to say what, who and how it should be done.WAKE UP folks! The world has changed. If you were dying and it was a black person's blood, heart, lungs, liver, kidney, etc. that would save your life or one of your child's lives, would you be so apt to turn it down ONLY because of the persons color? I DON'T think so! If so..then well perhaps you don't deserve to the right to vote. Many people before us of ALL races/creeds have died protecting OUR rights as Americans..remember it's WE the People! Not we the chosen few and only those of the skin color we like.Embarressed 2 say I live in WV @times. No wonder other states still look at us as hicks! Thank the lord not all of us still live in the dark ages. For those that have a color problem, pretend Obama is your starting Quarterback, or wide receiver that will get your team to the playoffs or even to the SuperBowl! I bet THEN color wouldn't matter!

It's so sad reading some of these comments. For decades now blacks haven't had a choice to vote for anyone but a white man.Now that they DO have a choice, they are being condemed? Maybe they like others r voting Obama, because he's who we choose to vote for?McCain scares the beggibies out of me. Think he's still fighting the Vietnam War. What are we winning anyway in Iraq? They didn't attack us.No WMD's, NO BinLaden? So how after the blood we've shared and money we've spent would we be losing a war? We went in We tore their country apart, now we're fixing our mess. But enough is enough. I lived thru the days of Vietnam n can respect how some of our veterens feel. But McCain? I'm not so sure he doesn't have PTSD and is still trying to 'win' a war that was over a long long time ago. One we are NOT in now. This election shouldn't be about color. It should be about 'what ale's us' McCain has had over 30 yrs. to HELP this country.Experiance shouldn't b a big issue,Look @the expericance Bushie hs

Look at where 8yrs. of the bush republican administration has lead us -to the gallows. Obama is our best shot at coming out of this I certainly don't believe we need more of the bush economic policies . Can anyone of you tell us what makes McCains policies any different than bush's ,what exactly is the difference between george bush & John McCain ?

Look at the ties to the terrorists he knows and he never did anything in senate either. McCain has done more for his counrty then obama will ever be able to dream of, if obama gets in you will see the BIBLE happen, read it, its occuring now, but when he gets in it will get worse. I would like to see McCain ask Obama about ayers and the other people responsable for bombing us and this rev. "wrong", and these other bigiots he says he knew when he was 8 yrs. old. I didn't know you could be a sen. at 8 yrs. old. He is blinding the people as well as satin did. Look what he did to oprah? Hey Walt? Speak for your own race biasist self! Unlike you, I am NOT ignorant and have had many many black friends over for dinner and the like. NOT ALL of us are still living in the caveman days and judge people by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin. Altho there are many many whites I wouldn't invite for dinner..YOU being first on my list. Haters are haters no matter what color they wear to disquise themselves. And has everyone forgotten Mohammed Ali IS Muslim? Stop grouping people into the same catagorey just to try and prove a very lame point that serves your ownself self interest and ignorance and does NO ONE else any good. It's truly shameful some in the tri-state area are still so ignorant. Personally I think those of you that would vote against ANYONE solely on skin color, are afraid of your ill deeds of the past will come back to haunt you. Which in itself is ignorant. Wake UP people, esp those so called Christians. Blacks shed just as much blood in wars than any white man or women has, fighting for YOUR freedoms! And how to we repay and thank them? With ignorance and intolerance. There are many many white people in our area I'd be more afraid of having as neighbors than some of the blacks I KNOW. As well as we shouldn't lump all whites together (the criminals, etc.) Blacks should be afforded the same courtesy. It's almost scary to think of what some of you are teaching your children.

To Whoa, This is exactly why we have separation between church and state. It was not to take church out of the state (for example, schools) but to keep either from mandating to the other. Church can't dictate law and the law can't dictate what type of church you belong to or religion you are. But, I'm pretty sure th Bible says that we are to follow the laws of the land.

Wow. I was linked to this article from a site which compiles news links and I have to say, I'm from Canada and am completely taken aback and weirded out that this whole race thing even exists. I mean, people really are this concerned with race in the United States? I grew up in a small rural town where white, black, and Asian people all farmed together. It's like a different reality, another planet, an alternate timeline. America, this election is showing the worst side of your country to the rest of the world, but I suppose many don't care about that because nothing exists outside of the USA to those many that don't care.

Guys your wasting your time. There is no reasoning with or educating the liberal mind. You coninually give them FACTS as to why Obama is a bad choice and you receive the same responses 'defending' obama every time. "He's got a plan!" "He's for change!" with NOTHING to back it up. None of them can tell you what Obama's 'plan' is or how he will bring about 'change'. You give FACTS as to why the blame for the economical straits we are now in cannot be placed on Bush, and they reply everytime with "We can't stand 4 more years of Bush." When you state the FACTS, they say that you got it from "McSame", or "O'Lielly", but they quote the liberal rhetoric spewed by CNN, NBC, etc. WORD-FOR-WORD. They're not going to look up the facts themselves, they are just going to continue to digest whatever CNN, or NBC, or their Union Boss, or Saturday Night Live tells them, memorize it, then repeat it word-for-word. It is TRULY disheartening, but it is the truth.

Posted by: To Jim on Oct 10, 2008 at 01:43 AM
I've been on it and it is FAR from unbiased. You do realize that Factcheck.org is run by CNN, right? And CNN don't even try to hide their liberal Democrat bias any longer. They freely admit to it.

What statistics do you have to support your claim that most of the people voting with regard to race are Christians. You have no info. to back that up.I am a Christian, and could care less about what color any of them are.As far as abortion goes, I'm also against it, and your right, the Repub. have made some empty promises, but have had success in placing some conservative judges on the Supreme Court. That may help in the long run. In the short term, however, are you aware that Barak voted against allowing doctors to provide medical treatment on late term abortions that did not kill the child? These infants are then left unattended to die on their own, without a human being to even hold them as they go. Please check it out yourself! These are babies, aborted at 7-9 months old, breathing on their own, but horribly injured by the attempt(mostly Saline), set in another room where doctors are not allowed to help them. They die injured, cold, and alone.Reason enough for me to vote for McCain

You need to check your facts again. BILL CLINTON signed NAFTA into LAW. A DEMOCRAT. Yes, you do have the right to receive medical care. However, it is a business, and services need to be paid for. Do I agree with the outrageous costs? No, but Why should those with out insurance pay more than those with insurance? All an insurance company does is negotiate the pay rate for services and pool everyone's money together to pay for the benefits. Does it need to be changed? Yes, but universal health insurance is not the way to go. Car insurance is the same principle. Companies make money when they don't have to pay out. You have a right to be treated and you have a right to pay for those services. Where in the Constitution does it say you have an American right to an insurance policy to help pay for those services? You have the right to pursue happiness, not other people's things or health insurance.

The race here is for Obama, to see how many more lies he can tell before election day. It bothers me to kill a hog and cut it up, knowing that most of it will then be used for glutening. Obama seems to be able to decieve and back murder with ease! Let's have a little wine for our stomachs sake. I'm getting sick, it's spooky !

Obama not being fit to be Prez. has nothing to do with race.. He is just simply too dangerous and has too many nutcases for friends... Ayers,, Wright,, and Father Flanagan... Birds of a feather flock together... and if McCain was so bad, why would Jane Fonda Kerry beg him to run as his running mate in the last election.. We remember it all and we will never forget.. what the dems have done to this nation. Slick Willie raised taxes,( it was 39% people) and caused 911.. by doing nothing to Osama.. Go McCain.. Go Palin! May God have mercy on this nation, even the uneducated, uninformed, blinded democrats. Maybe someday they will see the light and realize that Kennedy, Kerry, and Klinton.. KKK are not for the poor people.. and neither is Obama..

The biggest problem is the Ultra-Liberal media (Irr & Yohe), NBC, WSAZ, the Daily Independent, etc. The media elected (by proxy) Slick Willie. I am a registered Democrat, but not proud of it. I am giving serious thought to changing my party after the election. The biggest problem in this country is not whether or not people do/don't for Obama because of reace, it's the media having control of so many people's ideas. The "piece" by Obama / WSAZ yesterday is one more example of their control. They did not mention the fact that 98% of the blacks in this country, by one poll, will vote for Obama. But, that's not at all racial.

To those who believe the financial collapse is all Bush's fault & that Obama is going to help cure all of the problems, educate yourselves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU6fuFrdCJY I'm sure there are white people who aren't voting for Obama because he is half black, just like there are black people who ARE voting for him because of the same reason. This is a fact all over the country, not just here. But how people of this country could vote for a man who has so many questionable associations (as well as lacking experience) is beyond me. Here we have a chance to vote for a man with experience, wisdom, & who has selflessly served his country & endured more than most of us ever have or would...vs. a man who has done nothing for this country & pales in comparison. It's amazing how ignorant the people of this country are becoming. People will have to suffer (& I mean REALLY suffer) before they realize what a dire mistake Obama is to this nation. Wake up! Vote McCain!

Posted by: Brett on Oct 9, 2008 at 07:38 PM
If you don't want to vote for a man based on his race then simply don't vote... stay home on election day. If you are happy with the status quo and the direction the economy is in... then vote republican. I personally feel like the republicans have had every opportunity the last eight years and it's time to give the democrats an opportunity of their own. We are in depressing times... the economy of the world is in shambles. Let's do something different this time. Again... if you can't vote for a person based on their race.... STAY HOME ON ELECTION DAY>

The reason i brought religion into this is because most of these people who are voting based on race are "Christians" im not attacking Christians im attacking those who claim to be but their actions show otherwise. As far as abortion goes i do not agree with it but im not basing my vote on it every single republican says they are against it but its still legal and it will continue to be they say what you want to hear. This country cant handle another 4 years of this.. Giving a tax break to big oil companies yea that's looking out for us. I have watched both Pres debates and the VP debate i have researched both parties online and i think Obama is a better option if that mean i have issues fine.

I'am not against obama, because he is black. If Colan Powell, ran for the office of president, I would vote for him regardless, of his race or party. obama was muslim, until he was convinced to change his religion, by his wife in order to run for presdent. I also do not care for his stance on gun controlle. Check it out, it's on the web, it is also in an issue by the NRA. I'am not a raceist, I'am a realist. If you all think that we have problems at this point in time, go ahead, vote for obama, then you will see what real problems our nation, has in store for it. PS I would vote for Condolisa Rice, in a heart beat. Think about what a poor person from southern Ohio, has just stated. Thank You

No to Obama: The decline of our economy began in 1996 with NAFTA. When huge businesses were basically given the freedom to take up their roots and move their jobs overseas to help foreign markets. It promised to give us jobs... but they never showed up. President Bush pushed for and passed expansive measures for NAFTA prior to the DEMs taking over. It is not one man or one party’s fault for the economic crisis we are in. It's both. Now you need to consider your family and home and who will really fight for you and them. Or are you afraid to vote for someone of another race? Furthermore, Palin… She isn’t perfect either and her little cutesy stuff does not make me confident she can lead a nation. Joe six pack? Hockey mom? If I hear Maverick one more time I’ll scream. I’m sorry I’m not swayed. I’m offended by someone calling the average man or woman those stereotypes. I believe heath care is a right. We all deserve treatment when necessary. I’m sorry, but my car and its insurance is not as important as my health and the health of my family. God help this country if we get McCain and Palin in office.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 04:53 PM
I am soooo tired of the race card being played. I personally would like to know why Obama manages to down play the part of him that is WHITE. My voting will be decided on issues and not on race. I don't care what color the person is, I look at what their administration would do for me and my family. Will they help save our economy? Will I be able to afford to keep food on the table? Will I be able to afford college for my children? That's what really matters. Issues Issues Issues NOT race matter. I watched the debate and didn't hear Obama come out and say what he really is for. He always manages to dance around a straight answer. These are my reasons for leaning towards voting for McCain even though I'm a registered Democrat.

Posted by: 08 on Oct 9, 2008 at 04:19 PM
People should have to take some kind of test before they vote because most of you have no clue what your voting for or against. Most ppl vote for someone because they have always voted Dem and may not know a thing about them. Everyone is worried most about the economy . If you think prices are high now and you are afraid you might lose your job wait until Obama raises taxes on companies. Just remember that if business taxes are increased a company will find someway to offset it, and the regular Joe is going to pay for it with his job or with his billfold. I would also worry about how your individual taxes are going to be increased. Obama says he is only going to tax the rich. Im sorry but that is not going to work. Taxing the rich is not going to pay for his social programs he wants to put in place like universal healthcare. Have you heard Obama GUARANTEE he wont raise taxes on the middle class? No, he hasnt. He just says thats what his plan is, which he knows is what you want to hear.

"ACORN is one of the largest radical organizations in America that represents another questionable association of Barack Obama's. Obama's campaign has been endorsed by ACORN's political action committee and their sister corporation received nearly $1 million from Obama's campaign which they originally misrepresented on their FEC report. ACORN masquerades their efforts as good yet the endless examples of voter fraud and wrongdoing makes clear that their true mission is to poison the political process. ACORN's efforts are reminiscent of the sleazy Chicago politics that Barack Obama embraces."

To "Anonymous on Oct 9"; no, you're voting for Obama because you are ignorant democrats, incapable of thinking clearly. You wouldn't have a black man in your house for dinner, nor would you entertain a muslim. But you are going to vote for Hussein Obama because he is a democrat, and your daddy was a democrat, and everyone down at the union hall you chew tobacco with are democrats. This is not a high school football game, you know; it is not "yee-haw, we done beat the republicans!"; it is the FUTURE of this country. You are typical of the stupid people in this region. You are idiots, and truly deserve every hillbilly joke Dick Cheney can come up with. Democrats are just pathetically and tragically ignorant.

Some will say that many African-Americans are voting for Obama because he is black. Think- if you grew up in America and were told that a person could grow up to be anything that a person wanted, you would most likely be right--unless you are black. This possibly can change during this election. That promise can be fulfilled with a African-American president. And if you had never faced that thin shred of equality, but now you do, you would do anything to get it, because it would allow you to be part of what everyone else has been talking about for generations. Ironically, a lot of people will be voting for McCain simply becuase he is a veteran, others will be voting for McCain simply becuase Palin is a woman. And still other-- voting for Obama simply becuase he is a democrate. I would hope that those who vote against someone for the color of thier skin would examine what they are really doing.

Here are the FACTS: In Obama's book he says he was raised a Muslim. He also has family ties to terrorists groups. There are now supporting documents from that group that prove he is supporting them. I don't expect the leftist media to share this information. They support Obama as they don't like the competition from the other news media, and, if Obama is elected President, he will shut them down. No longer will we be able to have FREE speech. We will be told what we can and cannot say; what we can preach from our pulpits in church, and what we can print in the newspapers. The dems are trying to revive the legislation as we speak. As far as Ayers, Let's see... He announced his State campaign from his living room. He is really good friends with him and Ayers has stated himself that he only wishes he blew more of us up and planted more bombs. They are the FACTS. Why are you supporting a SOCIALIST? Why do you want govt in every aspect of your life? No thank you; I'll vote 4 MCCAIN.

TO those who think Bush is to blame for the slowdown in the economy... It was going well until 2006 when the DEMS took over Congress. Hmmm... Lets see... tax the companies and they will pass the cost of doing biz onto us. Now, who pays for that? WE DO. No wonder companies are leaving the US for CHINA, where they pay NO TAX. Also, Obama will undo the tax cuts the lower and middle class people have under Bush. He will re-instate the marriage penalty and death taxes. How else do you think he can pay for all those socialist programs? What ever happened to working and earning things for yourself? Health insurance is a RIGHT? No, it is a BENEFIT. If it is a right, then why won't the government pay for my AUTO ins., which I am mandated by law to have? I hear more black people voting for him because of his color than those not voting for him for the same reason. Also, Palin has the highest approval rating out of any politician. What lies is she spewing? They are facts. Check them out.

I don't care if thier white, black, purple, green or whatever. I'm voting depending on experience and what I think they stand for. I am voting for McCain because I don't want to lose the ability to own or carry my handgun and because I think he has more time and experience in politics. O'bama just is lacking in experience. Would you want a mechanic working on your car that is 18, or one that is 50? Experience matters.

It is not the McCain camp that is trying to "paint" Barak as a "terrorist sympathizer". William Ayers is a terrorist involved in bombings at the NYC police department, and the Pentagon. He recently stated that his biggest regret about those incidents is that they "didn't go bigger." Since then, he and Barak have had several meetings that amatter of record and he has made contributions in excess of $50 million to Barak's campaign. It is childish and foolish to believe that Barak's relationships with Ayers, Rev. Wright, the slum lord in Chicago and others only existed because Barak claims he didn't know what kind of people they were. He received $50 mil. from Ayers, the house he wanted because of the Chicago slumlord, and contributions from Wright(who is anti-American and who he has labelled as one of his mentors) and his church. Even if he didn't know what kind of people they were(IMPOSSIBLE!), it shows he has INCREDIBLY bad judgement regarding who he associates himself with.

"For those who do not vote for Obama because of his race then don't grip about gas prices, grocery bills, electric bills, not having no money in your pocket" Don't just say the words, tell us HOW Bush is responsible for OPEC charging $150.00/bbl, Grocerers compensating for the higher transportation costs, or lack of money in your posckets, event though it was Bush who implemented the tax cuts and the incentive checks. Tell us HOW he should have made OPEC lower their prices? Tell us how he should have demanded that the retailers who must transport their goods should just take the hit. Tell us how he, and he alone, is the reason you don't have money in your pocket. We're listening...we'll give you time to check with CNN for the answer.

Black or white isn't the issue here. This country has real people with natural human effection that's not according to the color of their skin. The issue is that most are looking at getting something for themselves and the politicans are using this against you with promises. I wonder when little unborn helpless babies are alive, after being aborted if they felt the pain. Then how do they end this life? Is it with a scalpel or do they use a surgical spounge to smother it. The pen they used when voting on this is no different than the scalpel to me. Look at the facts of who they are, friends with terrorist and from the seed of a Semitic Muslem. Some women will vote for McCain-Palin because theres a woman on the ticket, some whites will vote McCain because he's white, and some blacks will vote Obama because he's black because some people aren't inclined to think about the consequences of their selfish votes, i.e. Bush voters. But the point is when someone admits the reason they're voting is based on skin color, thats racism and it needs to be exposed. And Blacks not voting for McCain out of racism, by that logic I suppose no black has ever voted for a white president. Thats the double standard, ever since blacks have had the right, they haven't been afraid to vote for a white candidate as seen througout our electoral history, but now in this day and age there are still some embarassing excuses of humanity that will never vote for a black man.

Columbus couldn't keep their city center/mall going - so how can Portsmouth - with no means of income support?!? What is the race thing? I just don't get it - I thought by 2008, we would have gone beyond that. Let's vote for the man who will do the best for the nation - I feel that is Senator Obama. He knows what is was like to come from nowhere and having very little to live on. He has a real feel for the middle class. We just can't afford 4 more years of the rich and famous. Here's the thing about political polls (and really any poll in general)-if you ask the question a different way you will get a different answer. Polls are incredibly subjective tools simply because the question itself is biased. Asking "do you support the war in Iraq" and "Do you think we should have invaded Iraq?" are two different questions that might have two different answers. I am pulling for Obama, but I don't neccesarily trust the polls. Just vote your conscience.

CRY ME A RIVER ! i guess its o. k. for Obama to be raqcial though isnt it , hes a very racial person and has expressed that so stop playing the broken record. We need a president thats in bed with terrorist! Great idea!Mccain may not be perfect but at least hes not a terrorist supporter, doesnt attend racial churchs and etc etc.WAKE UP !! Obama will be the end to the constitution and our freedom.

Quit playing the race card. Its getting old. Mcain cant even say "that one" without everyone getting all worked up. That will be a huge problem if he becomes president. Obama always plays the race card to get sympathy and what he wants.

Well Joey, you have now.

David this story is not talking about white people like you who have at least taken the time to look at the issues and found another reason not to vote for them. This story is about the people who straight up say they will not be voting for Obama because he is black and that my friend is about racism. This story in no way implies that every white person who doesn't vote for Obama is a racist simply the ones who admit that is their primary reason for doing it. As for black people voting for him because he is black/half-black he has admitted that there will be just as many black people voting for him because he is black as white people not voting because he is black and believes they will cancel each other out.

We are a white white family and will be voting Obama. McCain is in our age group and we know that at this age you just aren't what you used to be. He needs to go home and retire with his trophy wife and Sarah Palin needs to go back to Alaska and be a Mother instead of a puppet for McCain. She's holier-than-thou and out spewing hatred and lies everyday. I hope she wakes up and realizes they are just using her because she certainly isn't qualified to be a Governor, let alone VP and possibly President!

the reasons lot of people dodn't vote for republicans is thier policys seem dumb to us. Just like king george.

We all know the total hypocrisy of the tri-state...it's no secret and the butt of many national jokes. I moved away because of these things with this area , and now the country is going to move on leaving appalachia behind.

I agree with Davidc on this one! I know more blacks who are voting for Obama because he is black than whites who are voting against him because he is black!

We had an excellent candidate in Ken Blackwell for governor. He had a lot more experience in statewide government than Mr. Obama does right now. Plenty of people wouldn't vote for him, simply because he was a republican. These "race" issues cut both ways.

666,000 new voters. Is this something else to spur along the ant-christ rumor about Sen. Obama? He isn't the anti-christ, he isn't a muslim, he isn't even black! His mother was white people! That makes him bi-racial, he is the best of both worlds. The ink is black, the page is white...together we learn to read and write.

How about the sex factor?? I'm going to voe because Sarah Palin is HOT!!!!

I agree with davidc. I have many black neighbors and they are all voting for Obama because he is black. Racial motivation runs on both sides of the track.

Well all I have to say is that I am glad that I am raising my kids not to be racist. A matter of fact my teenage son has asked to volunteer for the Obama team and I have agreed to let him. I am proud that he is old enough and has interest in politics to where he can decide for himself what party he wants to be. For those who do not vote for Obama because of his race then don't grip about gas prices, grocery bills, electric bills, not having no money in your pocket...etc. I work with people who voted for Bush the second time and all they want to do is grip. Hello....you helped put him back in the office. It is time for a change and the change is not another Bush in office which is exactly what McCain will be. Wake up and grow up!!!

Race is being overblown on both sides. The reason most black and hispanic voters are voting for Obama has more to do with the fact that he is a Democrat. Most blacks and hispanics are stuck in the inner cities and inner city voters vote Democrat for social reasons regardless of who the candidate is on the ticket. However, I do believe that Obama has inspired more black voters to register and that will increase the inner city vote. On the flip side, white, rural and small town voters have been voting Republican. This leaves the suburbs to decide this election, again, and it seems that Obama understands this.

did anyone really expect a diffent opinion coming out of the democratic headquarters where they went to get this story?

I agree with david c, I am voting for McCain for his dedication to the United States! I think that now people are going to vote for him out of pitty!

The fact that people are voting based on on skin color is disgusting if you are voting for McCain because Obama is black Or if you are voting for Obama because he's black then you are a disgrace to this country. What really makes me mad is all these "Christians" who are quick to preach to us all about right and wrong but then turn around and judge people based on skin color. I don't recall anywhere in the bible where it says whites are better then blacks. This is one reason i do not attend church i pray and i try to live a good life and help others but i don't see the need to show off in front of a bunch on hypocrites!!!!!!!(Obama/Biden 08)

Sounds more like the intimidation the Dems have been pushing since O-terrible received the nomination. If you don't for O, you must be racist. How can they say that if Obama leads in the polls?

Posted by: ironton on Oct 8, 2008 at 09:12 PM
go obama beat peanut head

Posted by: davidc on Oct 8, 2008 at 09:11 PM
did anyone ask any of the black voters if they arent voting for mccain because he isnt black. this really get under my skin when the media only reports on the things they want to.i havent seen one story since obama was nominated about the blacks who will vote for obama simply because he is black. i have overheard numerous blacks talking about how its time we got a black man in office. i bet we wont see that being a headline on the 6:00 news.the media wants white democrats to feel guilty for voting for mccain. when in fact we are voting for mccain because of his experience, his dedication to his country and his knowledge of foreign policies. i am one democrat who will vote for mccain and be proud of it. oh and by the way, if colin powell were the democratic nominee i would most likely vote for him, as would alot of others. so just because a white person votes for mccain does not make them a racist. no more than a black person voting for obama.

I think Obama/Biden will win in spite of the racism issue. More and more young people are registering, and they don't see race the same way thir parents or grandparents did. I am troubled that the McCain campaign is trying to paint Obama as a terrorist sympathiser. I think they are inciting a potential element of society to try to do harm to him. I pray that this does not happen, but I am fearful.
