ELEANOR, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A trip to the beach will cost you hundreds of dollars, but you can take a ride down to a county fair and have yourself a summer stay-cation.

Visitors to this week's Putnam County Fair have saving money on their minds. Fair President Wayne Bennett says costs are the same this year as years past.

“It's like a vacation,” Jarrod Trent said. “You get to ride rides, and you get to show in the showmanship, and you market.”

If you buy a weeklong pass at the Putnam County Fair, it comes down to less than three dollars a night.

Lawrence County, Ohio’s fair started Saturday. Their weeklong pass is $30.

"I'm 53 years old, and it's good to see community, family, and friends, people just having a good time,” Joe Jackson, a vendor at the Lawrence County Fair, said. “Not worrying about money, they just come and say 'look, this is our time, a week, let’s enjoy it with the kids,' so it's a family thing.”

A big event Saturday at the Lawrence County Fair is the Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. The fair runs all week at the fairgrounds in Proctorville.

Randy Houser is the headliner Saturday night at the Putnam County Fair.

When Anon is at the beach, I wonder if he enjoys that steak -- "smells" that is ridiculous......If farmer don't farm cattle (and other wonderful meats and veggies) you don't eat them!

I think the fair is a good place for younger children they really have a great time riding the kiddie rides over and over again but a lot of the fair is teenagers who meet together in groups of 10 plus and they smoke, curse and are very rude there that would be the downfall of the fair.
