VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An armed robbery occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Zaleski General Store, which is located at the intersection of State Route 677 and State Route 278 in Zaleski, according to a Vinton County Sheriff's news release.

A man holding a semi-automatic pistol held up a female clerk who was alone in the store. The man, who remained on the run Tuesday night, forced the woman to get on the floor and threatened to kill her if she tried to call anyone.

As the man ran out the door, the woman grabbed a handgun kept in the store and fired two shots toward a Ford pickup truck the man used as a getaway.

Deputies later found the truck wrecked at the intersection of State Route 278 and Wheelabout Road. The truck had been reported stolen from Hocking County, Ohio, earlier in the day.

Despite a multi-law enforcement response, including the use of K-9 units, planes and helicopters, the man escaped.

He is described as white, about 19 to 25 years old and about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded type sweatshirt and a mask during the robbery.
