ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An Ohio University researcher hopes to set up shop at the Athens sewer plant to see if it's practical to turn urine into energy.

Professor Gerardine Botte says initial testing shows that hydrogen can be extracted from wastewater and the hydrogen can be used to generate power.

Botte recently received two million dollars in federal funding for her project.

Professor Botte has asked Athens city officials for permission to use the sewer plant as a laboratory for her research.
