The people who are suing the former Putnam General Hospital packed a courtroom Monday in Putnam County, finally getting their cases before a jury.
It’s the first of many civil trials involving the hiring of doctor John King and his work at the former Putnam General.
We already know the allegations that doctor king botched more than a hundred orthopedic surgeries at the hospital when it was owned by HCA.
The question in this first trial, did the hospital do enough to check king's background, before the doctor got temporary privileges to begin doing surgery.
Carol Foreman has trouble walking, but nothing could stop her from this journey to the courtroom. It's been a long wait back when the hospital was still Putnam General doctor John King operated on foreman's knee the surgery did not got well.
The company that put King to work in Putnam County is on trial, the allegation that HCA and Putnam general rushed to get King operating privileges, despite serious flaws and omissions on his application.
But it was done and HCA Putnam General said it would have taken the FBI to uncover all of King's lies and past mistakes, that the hospital here did what it could.
Most of those treated by John King don't believe anyone was looking out for them.
Attornies for the former patients said Putnam General threw a bunch of money at King to get him to come here and said the hospital rushed the application process because of that half million dollar investment.
HCA admits Putnam General was in a hurry to get King on board, but only because there was a critical need for another orthopedic surgeon in Putnam County.
King himself will face trial in November as individual complaints against him get under way. The trial against the hospital that began Monday is expected to last several weeks.
