WINFIELD, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- The sentencing for a former PTO President from Putnam County was delayed Friday because the judge wants more information.
Dawn Compton pleaded guilty last month to charges she stole more than $10,000 dollars from the PTO account at West Teays Elementary School. Investigators say the crime happened between August 2006 and July of 2007.
The money was supposed to go towards a new playground and activities for the students.
Friday the judge postponed her sentencing because he wants her to undergo a 60-day psychiatric evaluation at the Lakin Correctional Facility in Mason County. The judge says he will sentence her once the report is finalized.
Compton's attorney tells us they were surprised with the decision, but they knew it was a possibility. They're hoping once the report is back the judge will sentence Compton to probation.
Her attorney also tells us Compton has paid $3,000 of the $10,000 she took from the school. We're told she will have it all paid back to the school by August.
A new sentencing date has not been set.
