An 11 year old boy from Pike County, Kentucky decided to raise money for Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Dalton Hatfield sold his bike and video games and is now getting national attention.

When senator Clinton found out, she not only mentioned Dalton in her speech, but talked to him on the telephone Monday night.

I am Daltons older sister, and I have to say he did all of this by himself. My parents were not looking for fame lol, nor was he (it just happened to work out for Dalton). I have never been interested in politics and I have never been pushed to do so. Dalton chose to save money for the Hillary campaign and while I thought it was silly, it was something he really beleived in and I am very proud of him

he's 11 years old stop putting him down!!! you guys are jealous your kids didn't think of it!!!

I'm sure the kid is just trying to make his parents proud. Someone should explain to him that Hillary isn't getting the nomination unless we add more states to the union to vote for her.

Dalton said he would like to be a lawyer and then one day he would like to be the govanor of KY.and whats more is he would like to be the president of the USA.WELL Dalton you have my vote go for it little man.and may GOD bless you for haveing a good heart.

Renee, you're right about the boy no doubt but don't be fooled by politicians like Truman. He is running around trying to take advantage of a situation where it can just make him look good. Fool the public is their middle name.

Posted by: Joe on May 16, 2008 at 04:35 PM
If Bill had any class he would at least give the kid one of his famous cigars.

Posted by: RENEE on May 16, 2008 at 02:09 PM
I think that it was great what the little boy did. Since he has a good heart and cares this much for Hillary Clinton. I feel that she should buy this child a new bike and other things that he sold to help her campaign whether she wins or not. Good luck to her with her campaign. If all children done stuff like this the world would be a better place.

Posted by: booger on May 16, 2008 at 12:16 PM
I guess this kid knows to go ahead and give everything to the government, because they'll just take it anyways.

I can 't beieve people on here are putting down an 11 year old child for supporting a cause he believes in. Regardless of your own opinions, you should be happy that an 11 year old has taken an interest in politics; political preference should not matter. Additionally, I believe that all candidates, including McCain, Bush, etc., raise money for their campaigns. Furthermore, I am pretty sure the Hillary Clinton campaign doesn't target children during their fundraising efforts. I really don't see why it is necesary to be so negative. I am happy to see an 11 year old child interested in politics!!! Way to go!

Posted by: Ryan on May 16, 2008 at 06:02 AM
Laney, Hillary is not the "only one that can do it." Monica Lewinsky proved that already. I am glad the kid has a good heart, but to support Mrs. Bill Clinton?

It's wonderful that a child of this generation has learned the importance of the election process. Dalton also learned to examine the candidates' platforms and make his decision based upon his findings. This is more than some voters do, choosing to vote along party lines instead of for the best candidate. Dalton showed maturity beyond his 11 years by selling his possessions in lieu of asking his parents for money. Most kids won't use their own money to buy toys or video games they want; they ask their parents for money to buy them, not sell other things they own. I'm VERY PROUD of Dalton and I'm a Republican who is not voting for Clinton. I do weigh the issues and vote for the best candidate, not straight Republican. Our freedom and right to vote was paid for by our noble Veterans. It is one of the reasons America is so great, and every citizen has a civic duty to vote and to teach their children to vote. The issue is Dalton learning the election process. Proud of u Dalton

i think what that little boy was wonderful and thoughtful(if he in fact came up with the idea himself!) i would have encouraged my child to save his money for something more worth while then a hot- headed- post menopause- psycho who just so happens to be married to a former president who sold classified documents to china! heck why not have the kid claim he's got cancer so he can go see miley cyrus in concert! people get real! the PARENT(S) are the ones who made their do what he did! just to get their 15 minutes of fame! i feel sorry for that kid!

Posted by: jell2008 on May 15, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Although it is great that this little boy is interested in politics and something other than the typical, "video games, etc. I think that it would have been great for his parents to talk with him about donating that money to a more "deserving" cause... you know, a shelter, a family in need...so forth. The Clinton campaign is in debt to the tune of some 20 million dollars...ridiculous. I love Hillary and I am a supporter as well..but this 11 year old boy could have done something with that money that would made him feel much more PROUD!

Flat out stupid. Anonymous said, " Thats right. Teach your children to give up what they own to suport the rich!" Someone has some sense about it.

Posted by: kaycee on May 15, 2008 at 08:11 PM
Dalton's parents are very good people who supported their child in a decision he made. This little boy believed in something and saw it through. Also, Senator Truman Chafin and other elected officials replaced the bicycle.

What a buch of clods and jerks > Must be OBAM BAM that is going to BAM BAM us all if he is nominated. This child has taught us all something except of course these clods and jerks that are bashing us. This child is intelligent , sees more of what is going on then the bashing clods and jerks , he is smarter and has listened to the issues and sees what is needed . You OBAM BAM supporters will get what is coming to you if OL BAM BAM gets in we wll will be on our knees abd you all will have egg on your stupid faces and wonder what happened. This boy's parents must be proud of their son and his intelligence and understanding the issues at hand. You go boy you have opened a few eyes with your youth and and taking a stand for what you believe in, never follow the jerks and clods they do not know anything just are fed a lot of nonsense that they are too stupid and has no clue what is going on in this country let them drown in their ignorance. "HILLARY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN DO IT"

this is great. he deserves a lot for this. that is what you call true support and care for our country.

Posted by: Janet on May 15, 2008 at 12:37 PM
I can't think of a single child in my neck of the woods that would give up their bike, let alone their video games. Dalton, I think you are a very special young man. Your parents are to be commended for bringing you up as they have in today's society. Most children are very selfish and very spoiled. Thank you for being a such a great role model to your peers. Good Luck.

Posted by: WHY on May 15, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Why would anyone let their kid do this and WHY would the money be accepted? outrageous

Posted by: Anonymous on May 15, 2008 at 10:47 AM
Thats right. Teach your children to give up what they own to suport the rich!

Posted by: Obamanation on May 15, 2008 at 10:05 AM
Poor child threw his money away.

That is so nice. he gave up his bike and video games to help raise money for hillary. the parents of this little boy raised a good one. Congrats to the parents and the boy. And like a true president congrats to hillary for contacting the boy im sure that made him really happy. VOTE FOR HILLARY!

Sad story... The Clinton's earned 109,000,000 since Bill left office. They have millions upon millions to support the election campaign. Also, Hillary may be able to use her election funds from her NY Senator run to pay the bills for the election. Nice of the boy to be dedicated to a cause, but what a waste of effort. It would be like me paying a parking ticket for Bill Gates.

Posted by: Heather on May 15, 2008 at 08:01 AM
I think that is great!!! Not to many kids would do what he did, and understand what it meant.. Good Job Dalton... And Congrats to his parents.. You are raising a great kid..

Posted by: gene on May 15, 2008 at 08:01 AM
hillary must be desperate to take donations from an 11year old kid.

Posted by: Doug on May 15, 2008 at 07:55 AM
Nowhere but Pike or Mingo County would this happen. Democrats breed like rats here in food stamp heaven. It must be something in the water ( Tug River ) here. This place "Kermit" in Mingo is last, in a state that's 50th in anything worthwhile including education.
