CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- We should know Thursday night if the Kanawha-Charleston Board of Health will soon have a new leader.
According to Thursday's agenda, the board plans to meet in executive session.
There's been some speculation this week the current director Dr. Kerry Gateley could be leaving the health department and Dr. Steven Artz may be taking over his job.
Many believe the move is over the tensions between the health department and the city of Charleston concerning the department moving to another location.
During that time, Mayor Danny Jones did not reappoint Dr. Artz to the board.
Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper sent some of the board members a letter Thursday saying, "in my years of elected office, I have never participated in an Executive Session, let alone been a participant in a pre-determined Executive Session, for an undisclosed purpose involving a public meeting."
Carper also says "any topic discussed at a Kanawha-Charleston Board of Health Board meeting is public business and should be discussed in public." The letter also asked the board members to vote against going into executive session at its May 15th meeting.
We should know more after Thursday's meeting. It starts at 4:30pm.
