WASHINGTON (AP) — For nearly three in 10 households, don't even bother trying to call them on a landline phone. They either only have a cell phone or seldom if ever take calls on their traditional phone.

The federal figures, released Wednesday, showed that reliance on cells is continuing to rise at the expense of wired telephones. In the second half of last year, 16 percent of households only had cell phones, while 13 percent also had landlines but got all or nearly all their calls on their cells.

Also affected are the telephone industry and emergency service providers, who can find it harder to locate people calling from a cell phone.

the thing about cell phones is they are lost or damaged easily and sometimes even though you charged them they die. That's why we keep our land line. Also even though I have good service at my house, many cannot get bars at their homes.

I work Two jobs so a cell works for me, I'm never home so I had my home phone cut off, they kept raising my bill when I didn't even use the phone.

We use only our cell phones, we do not have a landline phone. I agree with Ryan, why pay two bills. Its easier to just get one, if you have service at home.

I have no land line phone. I have had a cell phone only for 5 years now. Why pay two phone bills when there is no need.

With Verizon as our land line provider, I had no option but to use my cell as my main phone.
