11pm Update
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - 2:30am and you wake up to smoke. Your car is on fire outside. It happened to five people in Charleston overnight. To one woman, it was her home.

"I'm happy to be alive," Reese Bailey told WSAZ.com.

It was a long night for firefighters starting on Garrison Avenue, where investigators believe a string of fires started. Three cars were burned there alone.

After a car on Randolph, Reese Bailey was the next victim, but it was her house instead of her car. She says she may know who is behind it -- a person who is interested in buying her property. Now, the grandmother says her grandkids won't stay with her anymore.

"I can't take a risk on them being hurt," Bailey said.

All the cars burned on the West Side have a common thread. Every one of them was found unlocked.

"These type of people are opportunists," Assistant Fire Chief Tim Belcher said. "So they're looking for a good opportunity to take advantage of."

All firefighters can say is to be smart. Lock your car doors and keep them in sight.

Investigators believe the fires were started by one person or a group of people. The arsonists used an accelerant to start the fires.

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (WSAZ) -- The Charleston Fire Department says they are investigating some possible cases of arson on Charleston's West Side.

Assistant Fire Chief Tim Belcher says it appears a single person is responsible but that is still under investigation.

One of the fires happened at a home on Glen Street. Rise Bailey tells WSAZ.com her porch was set on fire. Three cars caught fire on Garrison Avenue and so was a car on Randolph Street. There was also a fire in a dumpster behind a Go-Mart near the Central United Methodist Church.
