BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Crews responded a house fire in Barboursville. It happened at around 1 a.m. Sunday in the Island Estates subdivision on Palm Drive. That's near Forest Bluff Apartments.

Firefighters tell us the owner of the house was not home at the time of the fire. He arrived a short time later and informed firefighters that there was a small dog inside.

The dog was found inside the home still alive. Firefighters used a pet oxygen mask to resuscitate the dog.

The fire damaged some of the siding on neighboring houses, but no one was hurt.

Yes, I have two children three and six years old. It's just sickening how people have become over animals. I could see if this involved a human being, like a dog leading police to someone alive. But a dog being rescued? Our society has grown a love for animals and lost their love for children and babies. This dog made the headlines, while we are murdering babies here in Charleston everyday, just really sad.

BTW, to Chris and anyone else who thinks this shouldn't be in the news...it's great to hear SOMETHING positive. I, too , and sick and tired of hearing how there was another robbery here, a stabbing here, a shooting there, and the 10th motorcycle accident. Thanks WSAZ...BRING ON THE GOOD NEWS!!!!

Awwww, Chris, have a heart. I bet you have no children. What if it was YOUR house, and your child and family came home to nothing...then found out the family "pet" more like a sibling was rescued. That would help he child with the loss of everything else. Thanks FD. I didn't even know they had pet oxygen masks, either!!!! LOL

This is a happy story, maybe that's why it made headline news. I am so tired of hearing about shootings, death, war, etc... Anything that's upbeat, I say print it.

Thank you Chris! Yeah I like animals, but come on headline news? It must be slow in newsland....I'm sure that there is something more important than a dog begin rescued from a fire. It sad when so many kids are getting hurt and dying everyday, but we care so much about animals being rescued? Does anyone else feel this way? Yeah, It's great that the dog was rescued, but why put in on the news? and more importantly why risk the health of firemen/women beacause of a dog?

All the men in my family are firefighters and have helped save animals from rivers, fires, and car accidents. Dogs are just like family members! Everyone should appreciate their local firemen. And I love to hear stories like this. These are better than everyone getting shot in Huntington.

who cares what you think,i for 1 dont.god bless those firefighters for all they do,so glad the pet was ok.

Thank you Barboursville Firefighters for saving the dog. Unlike over here in Proctorville where they wouldn't even get a kitten out of a drain and ended up dying.

A pet oxygen mask? I didn't even know they had them. Thanks to the fire department for their rescue of the dog. I know some people will never understand how important pets are to some of us. Barboursville is blessed with some great firefighters, thats for sure.

Chris, why shouldn't animals make the headlines?? We have police dogs, seeing eye dogs, therapy dogs, to name only a few! Animals play an important role in society today. Something as simple as a family pet can make the difference in a person's life who has suffered a loss or just needs a furry friend. Be quiet and stop taking the joy away from those who find happiness and companionship from an animal.

I would just like to say that my friend Jay and his mother and nephews found this house on fire when they got home. Last evening. They called the fire department and managed to wake up the people in the neighboring homes to alert them and make sure they were safe. They also heard the dog and tried to get it out but there was too much smoke. I am glad everyone was ok. I believe my friend Jay and his family are heros for reporting this and making sure everyone was safe.
