KENOVA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Officers in two states are searching for a man who escaped out of a window in a police cruiser.

Cpl. Johnson with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department says deputies are looking for Marcle Jenkins.

He escaped from a police crusier Sunday afternoon in the Kenova area.

He was in custody after he was arrested earlier Saturday on charges of having stolen property.

Deputies say he burglarized two homes in the Grandview Drive area of Kenova.

Jenkins is also on probation out of Kentucky on other charges.

He's been on the run since around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Cpl. Johnson says Jenkins got out through a back window of a cruiser. The windows are designed not to roll down; however, there was some type of malfunction.

Jenkins was last seen under the Interstate 64 Bridge on Big Sandy Road where he escaped out of the car.

Police say they found tracks showing him going in the general direction of Dreamland Pool.

There is easy access across the river into Kentucky, so authorities there are also on the lookout.

Well I know for a fact that the guy isnt dead...He has actually been spotted with his brother by several people. I know this guy went to school with him actually he stayed in trouble then and looks like nonthing much has changed! So sad to see this generation of young adults going down this path..makes me sick actually.

funny you are the only one talking about farm animals. Feeling guilty?

Posted by: Mad on Jul 24, 2008 at 01:40 PM
you dont have to be a genious to know what they went down there for! Any body with a brain knows cops dont do things like this unless they are up to no good. And besides there was mud all over the back of the cruiser except on the door that he was suppose to have kicked and broke, not one speck of mud. And the cop wouldnt even look at the camera when he was talking, the guy acted funny the whole time.

To mad on July 23 at 5:46 pm:No one should be beaten when handcuffed. But unless you have been in contact with him how do you know he was beaten.

Is anything ever solved in this town or Ceredo? The only thing I ever see from the police is harrassment for traffic violations and then it takes Ceredo and Kenova to handle it. This guy should not have had a chance to get away we are tired in this town of the drugs and stealing. If these guys can't do the job then get new cops. I do respect them and appreciate them however something needs done in Kenova.

This man is my brother and I understand If he did these things he needs no go to jail, but he does not deserve for the cops to take him under the bridge and get the crap beat outta him! My mom and dad also do not deserve to have the sorry pieces of crap cops in Ashland come over and harass them and threaten them like they did this evening! They have done nothing wrong! An officer came to their door threatening them about crap they have nothing to do with, and we are getting sick of it!! This is still America you know! They are worried he is gonna turn up dead in the river. Officer Johnson of ashland PD leave them alone, your buddies are trying to cover something up! Are you trying to help them? No wonder no one trusts the cops anymore!! My mom and dad have offered to let the cops search their home any time and this cop has no right threatening them. People all across the country are getting tired of this crap!

To Anonymous on Jul 22, 2008 at 11:34 PM, apperently ignorance runs in the family. I hope his children learn a lesson from this. Don't take what isn't yours! I hope your fondness of farm animal doesn't run in the family line also. POOR CHILDREN

With such a strong command of the english language, and the apparent ability to play the keyboard like a fine musical instrument, it amazes me that you are not "ritch" and have everything you want. I personally don't care whether he has kids to support, or whether or not he has everything he wants (or whether or not you do for that matter). Let me point this out to you, genius: Stealing is against the law...period. It makes no difference whether or not you "want" it. If it is not yours, and you take it, you broke the law. If you want something, stop hating the people that have it, and WORK FOR IT YOURSELF! That means: Get up every morning, go to your JOB, WORK while your there, collect a PAYcheck, then spend it on what you want. Are we clear here, Einstein. And by the way, whatever you do with that poor goat(within reason) when your not at your new job will be your business.

Posted by: Anon on Jul 23, 2008 at 11:27 AM
Stealing something to feed your kids is one thing, not the RIGHT thing mind you, BUT as a parent you'll do almost anything short of murder to make sure your kids are not hungry I'm sure. HOWEVER having said that, 99% of these people are NOT trying to take care of their kids period. NO, they're ROBBING and STEALING to take care of THEIR drug problems so I have no sympathy for them

To....Anonymous on Jul 22, 2008 at 11:34 PM...Not everyone posting on this board is rich...I definitely am not..I said we work hard for what we have ....the key word here is WORK!!!! I have kids to take care of also...He needs to get a real job, get a life and stop taking what he did not work for himself, set a good example for his kids and be a better person. I have to work hard every single day to have what few extras we do enjoy and I do not do it for thugs like this to steal from me!!!! People should stop making these excuses for him..As a mother my heart breaks for his mom..I am sure she did the best she could for him...You can tell she loves him dearly BUT...HE has made some poor decisions now his whole family suffers. Selfish is what it is...Not survival. Again....The police departments in our community do a great job with what resources they have.

To Anonymous jul 22 11:34PM: You make me sick! I'm not rich and I don't have everything I want but unlike you I don't think it is ok for me to take things that don't belong to me. And to p!!! you off even more I like the police.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 22, 2008 at 11:34 PM
you all need to get a life and leave people alone you al know he has kids to take care of so yeah back off. not every one is ritch and have every thing they want so yeah back off for real. and all you stuck up people gp suck a goat

Your heart goes out to who? My mother lives on the hill where this piece of crap had been robbing houses. What would have happened if she would have came home and this drug addict was in her house? He will show up in another jail some where.

Posted by: Andrea on Jul 22, 2008 at 06:45 PM
I would like to say thank you to all the cops for putting there life on the line for me. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: Tank on Jul 22, 2008 at 06:43 PM
There was mud all over the back of the cruiser, so where is the mud on the door he was suppose to have kicked? Seems to me if he had that much mud on him there would have been some all over that door!

i watched the news and saw the officer say how he supposly escaped ... i find it odd they took him 3 and a half miles the other direction of police headquarters under a bridge to question him .... what were the cops doing as he escaped ??? my heart goes out to his mom ... who flees custody and doesnt call family esp your mom... i pray Marcle doesnt come floating up the river ... this just doesnt make sense ...again what were these cops doing while he escaped ... i see a cover up coming big time

This is to ..Anonymous on Jul 21, 2008 at 08:59 AM..I agree with your post 100%. I am tired of these thugs stealing everything my family works so hard to get. Our camper has been broken into..they stole my sons playstation, games, tv, sleeping bags, tents, canopies, bikes, etc. They didn't just steal from me...they stole from my kids. It is not right. Their wagon and toys have been taken from our yard. Our German Sheperd was taken not once but twice!!. We have to get someone to stay at our house every time we go out of town and it isn't right! Someone needs to throw some chlorine in the gene pool and get rid of these idiots! I think the Ceredo and Kenova police do a good job in our community...I don't like it that the thieving goes on but the police do their best with the resources they have. We just have way to many skanks that need to go!

Posted by: Jim on Jul 22, 2008 at 05:19 AM
nothing that the cops did makes sense. I'll be surprised if they find him at all. Also, if the sheriffs dept. had him then he should not have been in the back of a ceredo cruiser. He was arrested in kenova. And they took him 3 1/2 miles away from the police station! I dont trust these cops almost as much as the crooks ! Something just dont smell right! And no one deserves for the police to beat the crap outta them. This is still America where you are innocent till proven guilty remember! Its not russia. If he did it put him in jail, dont take him down to the river and act worse than he did! These cops are suppose to be a good example.

Posted by: kenova on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:42 PM
I wish people would think before they type.My heart goes out to his mother, she doesnt know if hes alive or dead, god bless you Edna! i will keep your family in my prayers.

the red wire should not have power on it because if it does the switch would work in the back and there would be no need to hot wire. the lock turns off the power to that wire

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:26 PM
the red wire is the wire that comes from the lock out switch to power the other 3 windows there is no power to the red wire if the lock out switch is locked out so there would be no need to take wire out of the switch because the switch would work the window.so who took out the switch?

Posted by: father on Jul 21, 2008 at 09:26 PM
sounds like a police couver up to me they havebeen known to hurt or kill people there before

Posted by: concerned ford tech on Jul 21, 2008 at 08:32 PM
As a Master Ford Tech i find it funny that the red with light blue wire shown on the news had power on it. the master switch has a lock out switch on it (driver controled). the wire is the power wire that comes from the drivers lock out switch to the rest of the windows including the left rear. Now if the red wire had power on it the drivers lock out switch was not locked out, the switch in the back would have worked with out the removal of the wire from the hard shell connetor this sounds funny, the guy dont need to steal, he can get a job with ford, he all ready knows the wire color codes. They need techs. I dont condone crime no matter who it is!!!!! sencerly funny

ceredo - kenova police are a class act

Posted by: na on Jul 21, 2008 at 06:17 PM
maybe there was a deal? he showed them where stuff is at & they turn away for him to run then make it look like he escape? think about it & turn some one else in instead? u can't never tell now & days [cause this is new to me serious it is turn their backs to him ]I think it was because no cops well trun their backs like that. thin about it people.

Posted by: anon on Jul 21, 2008 at 03:10 PM
To Barb: Why would you immediately jump to this? "I will be shocked if Marcel is found without injuries. I hope this will not turn into another police brutality investigation/case." Nice assumption. These kinds of statements were not necessary. Hope you never need the help of the police. If I was an officer, I'd drive real slow to your house.

Posted by: anonymous on Jul 21, 2008 at 02:42 PM
The Wayne County Sher. Dept. is who arrested him. THe Ceredo and Kenova Police was called to assist. HE was taken to Kenova PD for interviewing and told Police he could show them where the rest of the stolen property was at because he had hidden it there. The police took him with them in order for him to show where the rest of the property was at. After placing him back in the car marcel managed to kick off the plastic cover of the police cruiser window and move one of the wires over to bypass the window lock mechanism. THe window rolled down and out he went and accross the road. THe police were 15-20 ft. in front of the cruiser documenting things. He will be caught and Im sure end up spending many years behind bars. Oh and as far as the cuffs...its not hard to sit over them and get them to the front even if they were placed behind him originally.

Posted by: concerned on Jul 21, 2008 at 02:37 PM
why was he even taken out of jail-(to make officers duties easier, and not handcuffed in the back, that was stupid, but boys instead of men for police dept.

Posted by: g on Jul 21, 2008 at 02:17 PM
what was the cops doing in line for donuts

Posted by: Joanne on Jul 21, 2008 at 02:17 PM
Sometimes you have to be smarter than the crook

Posted by: AuntBea on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:36 AM
Leave it to the good ole Mayberry cops to lose a guy right out of the car in handcuffs!! How incompetent can you be?

Posted by: ceredo on Jul 21, 2008 at 09:21 AM
Ive never heard such... I can not believe a man cuffed got the wires to work to let the window down to get out.. What in the world were the cops doing and where were they at..Sounds like they needed Officer Reynolds for the job hes such a great policeman that gets the job down...

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 21, 2008 at 08:59 AM
I don't care if this person does have injuries, I hope the police beat some sense into him. I am sick of these skanks going around and thinking everything is their's for the taking. Yeah, the cops should have handcuffed him in the back but obviously this guy has had alot of practice stealing if he knew how to "hotwire" a window so he could get out. I hope someone shoots this guy when he attempts to break in some place else. He looks like a punk.

Posted by: jerome on Jul 21, 2008 at 05:17 AM
he was seen walking across the ns railway bridge into south point oh acording to the guy who works for the moving co . he might have gotten away this time but there are bars in his future !

Posted by: Grow Up Marcel on Jul 21, 2008 at 02:44 AM
Nice. Went to school with this waste. Nothing but trouble. Hopefully he is caught and punished with some excessive force, you can't say he doesn't deserve it!

Posted by: Barb W on Jul 21, 2008 at 12:25 AM
The Herald Dispatch has an article that states he was arrested Sat not Sun. The police claim they took Marcel under the bridge to find more stolen property. Does not make since to keep part of the property at the motel and part under a bridge... Why not go look for the property without Marcel... what exactly did they think they would find under a bridge? I will be shocked if Marcel is found without injuries. I hope this will not turn into another police brutality investigation/case.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 20, 2008 at 11:36 PM
What time on Saturday was he picked up? What time was he arrested? Any 911 call records or witnesses? Where was he from Sat to 3pm Sunday? So how long was this guy really in the police car ? Was he being transported to KY? (the only reason I can think of to be out of Ceredo and in Kenova by the bridge) Why have the reports answered the basic questions? Any witnesses? Exactly where was the cruiser?

Posted by: Barb W on Jul 20, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Some reports say this happened on the bridge?? The officer stated he only walked away from the car 2-3 minutes? So where was the car exactly?

Posted by: Barb on Jul 20, 2008 at 11:17 PM
I don't understand if he was at the Hollywood Hotel in Kenova why the Ceredo Police had him in custody. Arrested Saturday at what time? Was he detained in Ceredo or Kenova Jail? What time was he processed for transportation? Why was he in the cruiser? A lot of questions for the community....

I work at the pool. There were police there looking today.. kinda scary that he's around here somewhere. I hope they catch him soon!!!!!

Posted by: anonymous on Jul 20, 2008 at 06:30 PM
This escape makes me wonder what is wrong with our local police department when someone in custody can climb out the window or the police car. What if he had killed someone then what? What was the officer doing to allow him to escape?

Posted by: Larry on Jul 20, 2008 at 06:13 PM
If this guy was caught at the Hollywood Motel, how did he get all the way out to the interstate bridge over the Big Sandy River? Cuffed in front, what is with that? I was always cuffed in back. Nice police work there, LU.
